These were vortex diamondback hp 4-16x42. Both held zero fine, what was breaking was something in the rear eyepiece focus adjustment. It would break and then fish eye. Take the scope off and you could hear the lens rattling around inside.

That is strange. I've never shot a 35 whelen but I can't imagine its recoil being more than a 300 wby mag. Me and my friend that has the 300 wby shoot ours fairly often and the scopes are holding up just fine. We both have diamondbacks.
