Sounds like purdue's OL and defense was trash

Bottom line is that he gives our WRs a chance to make plays and can make more than one read. Also a leader on the field and a team player.

No doubt he's surrounded by better talent here and will hopefully have better pass protection than he did at Purdue. He's also had a lot of time to improve since 2014. I'm remaining optimistic.

This is not surprising. Etling wasn't able to hold on to the starting QB job at Purdue. That we all know. So he left to start over somewhere else. Perhaps he's now more mature; perhaps he learned from his mistakes; perhaps he is still the same quarterback he was at Purdue. None of that is known at this time.
All we know is that when he got the call last weekend he ran the offense effectively. That was a vast improvement over the status quo. He's earned the chance to show his value going forward. If he has trouble maintaining his consistency, we can rotate with Harris or either of the freshmen.
From where I was sitting, if Etling hadn't come in last week, we were going to lose.

He is going to get sacked and he will throw some pics, but, we have weapons all over the field and can score from anywhere if we can get the ball to them.

While that may be true, a coaching change took place as well In 2013. He looks as though he wanted to go spread but needed to recruit a guy that fit that scheme. A new staff may have chosen to go in a different direction. if that's the case, then DE was out no matter what.

Didn't even realize BH had a way higher QBR than Etling.
