They had several.

I think all marching bands need (except for A&M whose band is awesome in a different way):

- majorettes spinning batons
- a male drum major or baton twirler who can really fling it and who can use multiple flaming batons at the same time.

Why do you continue to post the same shite in every thread? You already posted that article. No one cares considering the source.

All I knew was that the piccolo marching my old spot in pregame stunk up his solo TTR but unlike you, I decided not to start a thread to let everyone know the world is ending.

Saw that and several other glaring pregame errors. This is one reason that current members were telling their parents and friends how unprepared they were for this performance. I truly love the band members and honor what they are trying to do, but the leadership is horrible.

You obviously know more than I do on the state of TGBFTL, but JSU has a better band than most schools.

They are not better than Auburn, Alabama, etc. Bigger is not always better, but in this case, it was much better. We should (and used to) have the best band in the SEC.

Wait...somebody missed the TTR? I always watch for that. Haven't seen one in a long time.

That being said, there were dozens of Tiger Band members marching to their own drummers, and not the LSU drum line.

More evidence of the members stating "how unprepared they were."

He didn't just miss it, but it was a very very awkward TTR, as if he was shaky and unsure of where to turn. LRM made me practice it several times by myself in front of everyone..she would've cut me from pregame had it looked any less.

I also saw that, too. The woodwinds were always the best marchers (because we actually got cut) when i was in there, but last night I was watching so many out of step. Granted it was during a very slow part of amazing grace.. But perhaps it was due to a last minute change up or the show, whatever. It still doesn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the show. I can also appreciate there will be growing pains with a new administration.

Nope....they have been working on this show since camp (according to the current members). Face it, Dennis does not have a clue about running/rehearsing a college marching band......because he has never done it before.

Best halftime show in five years. I was so tired of Latin flare. New staff is awesome. They played oh e oh for the first time in years after one of the touchdowns and the fight song. Yall know how long it has been since they played the fight song after a touchdown? Years.

Band is on the way back up.

Also, they put that show together in the last three days and moved the show they were supposed to do to next week. So for three day prep, they did fantastic.

I hope you are referring to LSU not being better than Auburn, Alabama, etc. They don't compare well to JSU. No SEC band does.

If you meant JSU, that is ok. I admit that "better" is a subjective term. Some people probably prefer the Kanye West's version of "Bohemian Rhapsody," to the Queen version.

It is difficult to compare bands because of stylistic differences. In terms of musicianship, The Marching Southerners are a level above most, due to the heavy recruiting of top high school band programs in Georgia, and the DCI connections. The staff is phenomenal as well. The JSU Percussion section is top 5 nationally. Our band is a corp style band but closer to 80's DCI than to modern, and I am glad of that... modern DCI has ceased to be music. It is art, but not music. The size of our band limits our drill somewhat, and makes it harder to clean... so smaller, modern corp style bands like Riverside Community College and The University of North Alabama would claim superiority due to their cleaner shows and faster drill. The problem is, their interpretive shows are fingers on a chalkboard to a lot of purists.

TAMU has a cool band... as does Michigan State. They are both really good, but really different than us. Comparing us to bands like that is like arguing whether or not a banana or a lemon is a better watermelon. Probably the bands most similar to us are Western Carolina and MTSU, though both of them play more modern music, whereas we play more classical. They are both very good at what they do. James Madison is also similar, and usually very good. The Troy State Sound of the South wants badly to be in the discussion...but they really suck... and they do it loudly.

your post>Irish LSU fan. Great, detailed explanation for those who aren't complete band dorks (which I consider myself to be).

Irish is a troll that does nothing but try and tear down the band...just click on his profile and see how sad it is.

You probably think Les is awesome too.

Wrong.....Are you drunk? The band has been doing that every year...including last year.

Incorrect, the band played the full version of tiger rag after playing "presto" for touchdowns for the past two years. But you know everything about tiger band so that's fine.

You are making my point...Why can't the new administration do this? Instead, they have made the band smaller = not as talented (depth) = in decline.

Compared to the current LSU Band staff....you got that right.

Did you even see the JSU show? JSU is very close to 80's DCI. The JSU show is NOTHING like current/modern DCI. LSU seems to be stepping back to the 70's with that pageantry stuff.

Really??? More than half of the LSU band shows in previous years have been pop music.
The fact is that the LSU band and JSU are VERY close in style. The difference is the current leadership.
