Cummins are one of the best diesel engines, but the problem is the dodge truck surrounding it. If you get 500k out of the motor, it's because you've rebuilt everything around it 2-3 times.

Ford's best diesel was the 7.3 and those got to 500k just fine. Those are no longer made. The newer 6.7 seems to be doing well, but they're too new to really tell.

GM has the Duramax with the Allison transmission. Most Duramax engines don't make it to 500k because most people add on all sorts of performance parts/tunes, but even those still make it to 300k plus. Leave it stock, 500k easy and with no tranny rebuild because it's with the Allison.
