This is the 3rd year. They aren't making the playoffs nor are they an above .500 team.
Yes, I know this will upset a lot of people. Bookmark it and remind me they have success, bc I hope I'm wrong

2014 was absolutely not a rebuilding year.
We were one of the favorites and signed the Byrd as the highest paid safety.

Yeah 2014 was a bottom falling out year. We thought we were on the path and let go of too many vets at once because we thought the guys we groomed for a few years were ready.
The rebuilding started in 2015. Got rid of most of the shite and refocused.
This is year 2.

We just had a great draft. With a couple more in the next 4 years we could literally be a juggernaut in Drew's last year. This team will be good this year. And then ya'll will eat your words and say let's keep Drew so we can win a super bowl!

Right
Send Malcolm Jenkins, vilma, Harper, Greer, Lance Moore and will smith packing
Trade Sproles
Cooks is the only draft pick to show for from that 2014 class
Sign Jairus Bryd
Absolutely not a rebuild

we want to invest $100mil in Drew but we dont draft him a guard in the early rounds?
but hey we'll waste 13 overall on Peat in 15', 2nd on a guy who shredded his knee twice, 3rd on a QB.

didn't say that was a good draft lester earl haha. Man that really puts it in perspective

How many of those players contributed in 2013? Greer was lost to that gruesome injury during the year, and Smith didn't play a regular season snap.
Jenkins and Harper with Harper also missing a lot of time. So we had Vaccaro, kept Bush and brought in what was supposed to be one of the best safeties in the NFL.
Calling 2014 a rebuild is absolutely laughable. Hell, we were coming off a playoff appearance with a win.
4th best odds in NFL. We were supposed to be contenders.

People don't realize how elite our lines had played in 2013 and the fact we had two legit #1 corners, both which was an absolute anomaly...
Posted on 9/5/16 at 10:31 pm to GynoSandberg
Who did we rebuild with in 2014? Only player of note we added was Byrd (and the draft class).
Everyone else was on the team pre-2014. That's not a rebuild.
A rebuild is adding a bunch of new people, not losing a bunch of aging vets.
Now both can happen in the same year, but that was NOT 2014.

What is your definition of rebuild? Payton and Loomis never did nor will they ever clean house completely as long as Brees is here. You can only turnover so many spots per year
You can argue semantics all you want, but getting rid of a ton of veteran leadership In favor of younger and often times cheaper replacements means your rebuilding. They certainly didn't "reload" that offseason outside of Byrd - Erik lorig, Goodwin, champ bailey
They counted on their young depth and the Byrd signing , which proved to be a terrible move.

Jenkins and Harper continued to be bottom rated safety even though the defense outside of them played exceptional.
Vilma and Greer retired.
Will Smith destroyed his knee and never came back.
Traded stroles who was on a decline in each year, kept PT.
So we really only lost two contributors, lost vets, but signed older vets who were big leaders on their previous teams... let's ignore facts though.

I'm not condemning them for not retaining those people. It was the end of an era of a lot of key contributors. Those guys weren't on the squad, that's the only facts I'm looking at, mr spin job

And to rebuild you need to add people. Who did we add that year?
Not nearly enough to call that year a rebuild. Doesn't matter how many you lose.

Certainly not having the expectation of contending for the super bowl in that season

Not really what we did
Vilma - didn't contribute. Played 12 snaps.
Greer - career ending injury
Smith - didn't contribute at all, injured in preseason
Moore - didn't contribute much. 4th receiving option.
Harper/Jenkins - expensive replacement in Byrd.

They certainly didn't "reload" that offseason
Because we didn't think we needed to "reload" given our playoff birth and road win. We thought we added a key piece to a top 5 defense.
We also extended Graham to a pretty enormous contract. Clearly in the future plans at the time, yet traded when the rebuild actually started.
That's not semantics. Find me one article saying that the Saints were trying to rebuild before the 2014 season. Just 1

and push back our rebuilding even longer.
What is this "rebuilding" people keep mentioning? Nothing has been pushed back. The current team is the rebuild. This team hasn't been the Super Bowl team since 2012-2013.

Rebuild, renovate, retool.. This has been a common theme over the Loomis Payton regime. They've rebuilt the defense twice, rebuilt the trenches on both sides, secondary etc
Like I said earlier, there will never have a complete rebuild like Cleveland team is doing as long as Brees is here.
Wholesale changes to a portion of this team is just something that sticks out considering th continuity we boasted for years. Call it what you will; it's probably not the traditional sense of a rebuild bc a team with a upper tier QB will never truly rebuild

gotta agree I liked it more than any other ones in recent years and its not even close.
2012 draft was a total wash and that also happened to be the year we were stripped of the draft picks. We did pick Hicks and he had some good plays but he ultimately crapped out and was traded off.
2014 draft has been a wash besides Cooks. Some might point to free agent busts as a root cause for failure but to me its all about drafting.

It says in the title and article specifically they aren't rebuilding.
You don't know what a rebuild is. Frankly I'm surprised Duncan got that right over you.
