son's godfather. He supposedly will have a big hand in who the new coach is and is, obviously, very good friends with Saban. I also saw another observation that makes you think. People think that Saban is only interested in the almighty dollar but that is not necessarily true. He left Mich State for more money and, more importantly, a better chance to WIN. He won at LSU and left here for more money and what he was convinced was a prime opportunity to turn around another slepping giant. He got there to find unreal expectations and a program that once was great and may never be again. He saw the handwriting on the wall and took a pay cut to go back to college ball to the best opportunity available. He has had one year there and, by some accounts, is not happy because expectations are too high and the pressure is too great. He knows the SEC is much more difficult than it was when he was at LSU. He is in a pressure cooker job now that will stay that way until he leave voluntarily or gets fired. Now the opportunity may present itself for his family to get back to their roots by taking a much lower pressure job at a program where he can compete for championships every year. He can be the king of West Virginia and be worshipped by it's fanbase without having to leave up to a dead guy's legacy. Things could get interesting if WV comes knocking on Saban's door in Tuscaloosa.

Who would Bama get if Saban were to leave? Are there any more coaches left on the market after all of the action?

I don't doubt the money in Miami was tempting, but what he finally got that no other NFL owner gave him was complete control. That's why I think he took the Miami job. If all he wanted was money, he could have left for the Bears or New York or Indy back in the 90's.

It would be funny if it happened ....no way UWV will come up with the scratch.

I don't know how much "scratch" they would actually have to come up with. Saban seems to value CONTROL and POWER more than he does money. I know that is contrary to what most think but you have to look at Rocket's last post. It's true that he valued the total control he had at Miami. He wanted total control at Bama but we all know that will NEVER happen regardless of what bullshite they fed Saban to get him there. He will always have someone giving him "suggestions" and boosters who want to "help" him like they did during the Albert Means debacle. He could go to West Virginia and have complete control. He could be the KING of West Virginia football with less pressure and a school that is about as loyal to it's coaches as any school you will find. I'm not saying it will happen but would not be suprised to see him take a pay cut to make that one work.

That's right. If Wayne H. doesn't offer him total control like he did, I don't think Saban goes no matter how much money Huizenga offered him. Saban wasn't about to have someone else pick his players for him.

I really suspect that is what will make him leave Alabama. NO coach will ever have total control of that program and that is not what Saban wants. West Virginia would turn over the keys to him and let Saban run it like he wishes. He could easily be on top of the Big East every year and have a much easier time winning than he will have a Bama. I just would not be shocked if this came down in the next few weeks.

He will not leave Alabama now. I think he would have left this year for LSU if he would have had the opportunity but we all know now that Miles is staying.

im gonna start praying that it does. what kind of meltdown will the state of alabama have? will it even exist anymore?

Why are you so sure of this Scoop? This is only speculation on my part but I just don't see Saban staying in Alabama. The honeymoon is over and the pressure is going to be unbelievable for him to produce next year. Men at his age would rather be coasting in a job like WVU than being caught in a pressure cooker job like Alabama.

I don't think so. I think guys like him thrive on pressure and the challenge. I think that is what drives people like Saban. He may leave after he turns it around but not before. He is in charge at Alabama no matter what people think. Also, I think his credibility would take too big of a hit if he left again to soon. He needs to stay somewhere for a while. I think he could have gone back to LSU if Miles would have left and everyone would have understood it, but if he just takes another job now people will thnik he is a job hopper that can;t handle it when it gets tough. I actually think he came to BAMA for the challenge.

Well they have all that buyout money Michigan gave them!

Buyouts can be negotiated, and theres some slippery language in the contract that because WVU didn't start breaking ground on their new facilities voids part of the agreement. WVU might be a bit disappointed with how much of that 4million they actually get.

And where have you been? If money was NOT an issue, he could have gone to Bama for $1.00 a year.........Just to have the HONOR to coach at the school that the BEAR did.......
and if he was and is such a great coach, why did he lose so many games this year?

If Miami wasn't a challenge in it's present state then neither is Bama. I think he ran away from the ultimate challenge in leaving the Dolphins.
