No, because that would mean that my kid would be (Horsemeat), Jr., Jr.
I would name him (Horsemeat) III though, because my dad was a complete badass in comparison to me.

Your choice, mutual choice with the wife, or did she make it clear it wasn't happening?

My son is a junior but we don't call him junior and he goes be his first and middle initial as his name instead of little Sam waters ton, etc. That way he's got his own unique name, but is still a junior...

Not that it really matters, but going with I, II, III, etc. or Sr. and Jr. is supposed to be reserved for the exact same name only. Regardless, would you be upset if your son went in a different direction for your grandson?
Yeah, none of us are Jr, III, IV. We just have the same first and last name.

brought up the idea of a junior - more as a joke than anything else - and she immediately shot it down.
Interesting. I'm a "III," and when I first brought up naming a son a "IV," she had an immediate negative reaction to it as well. It was curious because her brother is actually a junior and she's ok with that
She's come around on the idea, though. Probably because I know if we ever have a son, I'm just gonna call him "Cuatro," anyways

I know a family who has a boy and a girl. The boy is a Junior and the girl has the same name as the mother.
That's really weird

Ahh, gotcha.
I'd imagine most decent parents would avoid putting any pressure on the naming of their grandson, but would you be upset if he was anything other than Robert?

I'm a Jr.I probably didn't like it so much as a kid but my Dad was a good Man so I'm glad to carry on his name.

It was my choice. Never wanted to growing up or ever really. My middle name is strange.
Also have a buddy who is the IV, he had two boys and neither is the V.

Jr. seems much more prevalent in African Americans and Hispanic Americans. Did your parents ever discuss any concerns about your brother(s) not getting the name?

many times the III goes by Trey, but if you're going to do that then what is the point of passing on the name? I'm genuinely curious.
I go by Trey irl now. Didn't used to growing up. Started going by the nickname because I ended up going to A&M just like my dad, who is from the area, but he went by his first and middle names interchangeably growing up. Started getting confusing since he still has a ton of connections there.
My immediate family still calls me by my real name, but my wife calls me Trey, and I prefer that.
My dad's dad passed away when he was young, and now my dad exclusively answers to his middle name, so if/when I had a son, him going by his first name wouldn't be too confusing, really.

I know a family with almost the same thing. The girl's name is different by one letter.

I have 3 sons and they all have their own name.

I gave my son, Deuce Midnight, my first name (which is awesome), but a different middle name. We did not add "junior" or II to his name. Some folks do call him "junior" and Pops called him "Little Ace" even when he started to tower over me "Big Ace."
His sisters (and, sometimes, his mother and I) call him "Bubba." We're southern. Sue us.

I never intended to, but my GF has expressed interest in passing on my name if/when we get married and have a son.
I think he'd go by my middle name.
She's pretty sensitive to trashiness, so not sure what to make of this thread. Retaining a name never really struck me as trashy.

Not at all, actually. After me, they got very eclectic with the names. My brother after me has a West African name; the brother youngerthan him has a common name "Ian," but spelled differently as an homage to my dad's sister who passed away the year before that brother was born; the brother younger than him was adopted and has a Biblical name, and the youngest brother was born in Greece, so he has a Greek name.
The 'rents got pretty damn creative

I am a Third and didn't make either of my sons a Fourth.
They need their own name. I did pass down my middle name to my oldest son though.

Even though it seems some normal posters are Jrs. and Srs., the opinion of outsiders seems to be it is either trashy or reserved for the Thurston Howell IIIs of the world.
