Yep. Lots of conservative cucklords in here.

you just described like 80% of kids born today

Well except the ones who get aborted, right?

Yes, in a heartbeat. It's not fair to anyone involved. If something happens to my wife and I, the child could not grow to take care of itself. To me, that's the biggest issue.

Sorry you're against children having the right to experience LIFE, even if it's inconvenient for you bc they're not "normal". frick your convenience.

And to answer the OP, I don't know about Down Syndrome. That is a tough one.
But for other, much worse abnormalities/syndromes/defects, that would give the child a terrible quality of life, yes, I think my wife and I would choose to have an abortion.

Well there are numerous other medical conditions that a child can have that are also expensive.
And...there are many fully functioning adults with DS. The DS spectrum is very wide...some people are more functioning than others. And you can't know that...with bloodwork of the fetus.
There is a tv show on A&E called Born This Way....it's a reality show about a bunch of DS adults and how they are living their lives. I haven't watched it yet but it's on my list. I would encourage anyone that thinks people with DS are doomed to watch this show.
Also...watch this video...do you think every one of these people should have been aborted because they have DS?

You have a point. At least with a normal child though there is that 20% chance.

Are you suggesting people with down syndrome think they're a burden?

We do an annual event at a local center for people with disabilities. I reccomend you find such a place near you and go attend any public events they hold and meet some of the amazing people there. I think you'll come away from the experience a changed man with a new outlook on a lot of things.
Yeah. If you go to the public events you will encounter the high functioning healthy disabled people.
Try some medical wards or nursing homes where you have someone who is 40 years old with Alzheimer's and a feeding tube and has never learned to toilet and can't speak.
Maybe some people would say that's a fluffy bunny happy scene but I'm not the one who is going to tell the parents that they are going to force them to have a child if they don't want to.
A weekend at a disabled fair is nothing compared to a 70 year old woman changing the diapers of a 250 pound 45 year old daughter with Down syndrome. And that's a real story.
They sadly probably didn't make it to your awesome little fair.

absolutely, but I would probably abort a healthy baby too. and I wouldn't have much of a say, my wife would and she would absolutely abort anything.
i have friends that have disabled kids. None with downs but I know one with severe autism, and another with a chromosonal disorder and another with cerebral palsy.
while they love the kids, its taken a toll on their life.
eta: I have been with my wife 22 years and she hasn't gotten pregnant yet, and I had a snip snip. so no chance she does and I am the father.

Because if you can be around kids with Down syndrome enough to know anything about them and you still think they and the world would be better off if they never existed, you're on a Himmler level of evil.

and if the child is born normal and then get a disease? in an accident?
we just put them down as well?
In some countries, yes. In extreme medical cases, not necessarily just an accident.

I'm Catholic and I believe in obeying the law and giving every heartbeat a fighting chance. If that makes me a nut then so be it.

For a board that is obsessed with personal accountability, apparently that doesn't apply to the "inconvenience" of children.
If you cannot handle all of the different consequences of unprotected sex, then perhaps it isn't for you.
