quote:That was my thing with it. Diablo was a mentally disturbed guy who lost everything by his own doing. I'm surprised he didn't kill himself. This was the only thing good he had left to do in life. These people were the closest thing to a family he would ever have. They were on his level. I bought it. I think if that would have been established sooner, the Diablo family line would have worked better.
Diablo referring to the squad as his family may have been over the top, but I can see this group bonding fairly quickly after they've all been in solitary confinement. The Government lets them out of their cells and groups them with others who have similar backgrounds. You know that some of those guys would be itching to have someone to talk to, especially folks that understood where they're coming from.

They should have had a montage of the Squad doing other missions so you could believe that they are actually close knit.
That with a much lower level main villain would have helped the movie out a lot.

I wish the Australian would have died with roided up Lou Diamond Phillips

I didn't care too much about Leto's Joker, but couldn't put my finger on it. I think your heroin statement is dead on. Simply by the looks in their eyes, Nicholson's and Ledger's Jokers always seemed to have insane plots and thoughts coming and going in their heads. I didn't sense that in Leto's Joker.
And I agree with the bulk of your review.

I felt like there was a lot of badly cued music in an attempt to shove it down our throats that “this movie is fun and playful”.
The only time I thought, this music is weird, was when they played the Eminem song.

You could tell he was supposed to be the comic relief, but somewhere along the line, I think they took his lines and gave them to will smith or Harley
Also I thought the scene where they bring in the useless apatche character just to kill him 2 minutes later is a perfect microcosm for the issues for the whole movie. They made all the obvious moves but skipped the set up of those characters which undercut the excecution of the moves.

That's because those were the two best, with Ledger's being the ultimate Joker.

The bar scene is when I checked out. Cringeworthy dialogue and the obligatory "THIS IS WHERE THEY ARE BONDING" moments without ever giving the audience a true reason for the squad to give a shite about each other.

I think the dialogue was OK in that scene. But yea, that's kind of my point. I felt like it was solidified why they would bond in that scene. They kill people. They're life is in the hands of a mad woman. They're all in the same boat together. The problem is, I think it was too late in the film and many people like you had already given up.

Collider has an exclusive interview with David Ayer

How long was your first cut?
AYER: Define first cut.
Not the assembly, but the first time you put it together that you had a cut of the film and you were like, “This is pretty good.”
AYER: It’s funny because…let me say this, there’s three movies you make: There’s a movie you write, there’s a movie you shoot, and there’s the movie in post that you edit. When you put a cut together it’s about plateaus, so the first sort of plateau the movie got was just under 3 hours, I think it was 2:45 or something like that.
Was that a cut that you would’ve been ok with if people watched it?
AYER: No.

We'll never know what really happened with this movie. We know that the process was a mess, but is it the editor's fault? Is it Ayer's to begin with for writing a mediocre script? Probably a little of all of the above.

DCs fault. Time to blow it up

Two other things that just pissed me off with Quinn's character:
-In the first encounter with Enchantress' soldiers, a wave of them come running in while Flag and his men unload on them. The creatures make it through the line of automatic weapon fire and end up being taken out by a 100lb psychopath swinging a Louisville slugger. I just looked at my fiancée next to me and shook my head.
-The other thing was that Quinn's character is only shown reloading the Joker pistol 1 time. Other characters ran out of bullets (Waller in the helicopter). Yet she's running around shooting away with her 6 shot revolver. If she had extra ammo, I would love to know where she was hiding it.
The outfit did make up for those shortcomings for me though.

there were some good scenes. harley was good. So was croc, deadshot(ok, not as street), and killer croc.
villian was fricking terrible. thought they would be in Arkam like some heist movie, not this shite.

Geez Croc was terrible. Harley wasn't great either. Honestly, I thought Will Smith and the guy that played Colonel Flagg did the best job. Leto was good but I guess the different spin on Joker kind of took me by surprise.

Harley didn't kill her, she just cut out her heart with Katana's sword. Flagg crushing the heart is what killed Enchantress
