Carpal and Cubital Tunnel surgery survivors

I'm scheduled to get a little slice and dice in the next month.
I've had 5 surgeries in the past, not terribly concerned about getting another.
Question about this procedure, as I should have asked for further clarification while inside doc's office, but didn't ... Doc informed me that he needs to make two incisions, one on my wrist and the other near my elbow (he will cut, stretch and/or re-position ligaments, if necessary, near elbow incision - could be wrong here, but this is how I interpreted him) and give me a shot for my arthritic thumb joint while sedated.
Who here has had both done at the same time? He states that I'll be bandaged up for about two week and then recovery can take up to 10 weeks, but perhaps as little as 6 weeks. Is therapy usually while recovering?

Believe it or not, more hereditary than repeated motion.

I'll have to switch hands. Will feel like more like a random or stranger. Which can be good.

I assume there was too much fapping in the first place.

Yes you will be getting therapy. If not ordered ask the surgeon for it. Do as told and don't try to progress yourself "bc you heal better than most people."

Wasn't bad at all. 3-5 days in a half cast then started therapy. Do the exercises as directed and your meat beater will be back in business before you know it.

At my age, those thoughts are long gone.

Did you have two incisions as well?

Yes. One at the elbow and one in the palm of the hand.

what Dr did you end up going with?
yes therapy, pretty soon after surgery
yes splint, probably have one that you wake up with after surgery, then a custom made one your first day of therapy, and no sling

I have cubital in both arms
thought about the surgery, but had really good results by adjusting my behavior. Sleeping with my arms straigt. Not reading on my side in bed anymore.
Makes doing bicep curls hard though. Hand goes numb as soon as any real pump gets going.

Have cubital in my right arm. I've thought about the surgery too but my doc insisted I try some behavior modification and changes in office ergonomics. So far this has made it tolerable for me too.
How awesome does it feel to put your elbows flat down on a desk or table though? It's like elbow punching a thumb tack for me...

Have had it done on both arms/hands.
Unless things have changed, you'll be bandaged up pretty good for a few days with a sling holding your arm at a 90ish degree angle. For the first 24 hours you'll have a drain in your elbow incision and will need to sleep sitting up. You'll remove the drain yourself, and then a few days later they'll remove the bandaging. At that point you can start therapy - mostly finger motions and range of motion. Just do them - anytime you're sitting around bored, just do a few at a time. After enough time you'll get the hand stitches out (make sure Rick does it - his PA did my right hand before it was ready to be done and I had to butterfly bandage it with that silver crap for antibacterial protection until it healed up). Anyways, you'll have a compression sleeve to wear over your elbow while it heals up. Getting the staples out is fun - feels like a lot of ant bites along your elbow until they heal up.
It'll make a world of difference in your hand's function and strength. Only real advice is to follow their directions as far as waiting to lift, waiting to grab, etc.
