I would love to see video of this. I have read about it for years. I would imagine UNLV and Baylor both have tape of it but clearly only one of those would ever let it out.

STart at 4:20. Baylor had the game won but fricktard Kevin Steele wanted to punch another one in instead of taking the victory.

I think that was Steele's first game as HC. I remember reading about it in the morning paper and thinking what an idiot.
ETA: it was his first home game as HC. They played at BC the week before and lost 30-29 in OT.

Depending on your perspective, a victory formation play with 4:45 remaining is about as bad as it gets in football...

ETA: Just looked the game up. Baylor was leading 24-20 with 28 secs left in the game and fumbled near UNLV's goal line. The Rebels housed it 100yds to win the game.
At least tonight anyway, I am a Rebel. Go UNLV!

The Bus fumbled trying to run out the clock and Roethlisberger made a game saving tackle. It was in a playoff game vs the Colts during their first Superbowl run together.

That was the game Joey Porter went insane afterwards to the media accusing the NFL of rigging the game for Peyton Manning.
That Roethlisberger tackle is one of the most under-hyped, underrated plays in playoff history. Bettis was careless with the ball and Ben totally bailed him out for the rest of his life.

seem to remember ditka's bears being the team that really made the formation popular ...

It happened to my high school team. We ran out of the shotgun 70% of the time, including victory formation.
Standard pro formation with the half back and full back set about a yard ahead of the quarterback towards the line of scrimmage. We had a bad snap and it ricocheted off the fullback's kneepad. Minden recovered, but didn't score. Funny nonetheless.

Ben made a great bailout tackle, but people forget that Nick Harper probably wouldn't have gone down if his SO hadn't have stabbed him in the quad with a butter knife a few days before the game.

This probably doesnt count.. but in high school, my freshman year, i was nothing but a bench warmer then.
But i do remember we were losing terribly. Probably by about 30 points. The other team then decided to be nice and go into victory formation. They managed to somehow fumble the snap and our nose tackle fell on the ball. This did not mean a whole lot because our offense had time for one play and we were already out of the game.
But I do remember being very surprised because that was the first time I ever saw a victory formation go bad,and it was also one of our few highlights fron that game
