I'm lookin at getting a new MacBook and was looking for help deciding what I should pick. First off what is the difference between a hard drive, SSD, and flash storage? I know SSD are better than hard drives but I've never heard of flash storage. Also, is there supposed to be a 2016 model released in August/September? And if so should I wait for that to be released?

As I understand it flash storage is a broader term but you can expect similar performance.
I have a Macbook (12 inch) if you're looking at those.

Flash is a combination drive. All your most used files are put on the smaller SSD drive portion and the remainder that aren't accessed that often on the regular and bigger hard drive part.
It's very fast and effective.

You couldn't be more wrong. What you are taking about is a Fusion Drive. An SSD is the essentially a flash drive.
OP - Get a Mac with an SSD no matter what. Buying a computer with a spinning HDD in 2016 is a no-no. Also all Macs are due for an upgrade except the MacBook. If you can hang on till September or October, I would wait.

With his history of trolling, he certainly could
But yeah, Apple just started calling it flash storage when they moved away from 2.5" SSDs to PCIe.
I can't believe Apple is still peddling that 500GB HDD MBP for $1000.

That would be a fusion drive not a flash drive.

It's not even a fusion drive, it is a hybrid drive. Apple just used the brand name "Fusion" much like they use the brand "Retina Display"

How old is your current macbook? I changed the HD to an SSD and increased the RAM in my 2008 macbook pro. The thing flies now.
Much cheaper to replace the HD and RAM. It took me maybe 15 minutes to change everything and I have as much tech skill as a monkey with a screwdriver.
ETA: SSD
RAM

You're right. I just assumed he was talking about a fusion drive and forgot to point that out.
