Chain deck ZTR for $5k?

Is the Gravely ZTHD the only mower at/under $5k with a chain deck?
Im lightly looking at the moment for a ZTR for light commercial/residential use, nothing crazy, $5k budget.
I know Hustler/Big Dog and a few others get love on here, but it looks like they all have bracket hung decks?
I have a stout hill that runs off my back patio, so the floating deck is necessary.

My dad has the HD52 (maybe 54, I don't remember), and has it adjusted to where his deck floats on the anti-scalp rollers. For his price range, it has been great. Can't go wrong with the Kawasaki motor. He has has no problems, and cuts over 2 acres every week with it.

My hustler 42 scalps the shite out of stuff it shouldn't. So yeah, sounds like you are smarter than I was.

I have a Dixon ultra 52 ZTR with a Koehler 25 hp engine. Has a chain deck. Got it for 4800 out the door. It's light commercial grade with a lifetime deck warranty. I love it

I don't use that brand but have several buddy's in the lawn biz that do, so either you're mowing too fast on a rough turf or your rollers are broken.

Well I bought the cheapest one, and I've started going slower, but it hasn't helped much.

Those anti-scalp rollers should be adjustable. Drop yours down so that they contact before your blades are able to scalp the lawn. In some uneven terrain it's almost inevitable, but you should be able to minimalize it.

something maybe is out on the deck, zero turns aren't known to scalp unless something is wrong.Check and see if air pressure is equal in all tires then check to see if deck is off as well as rollers, sometimes its doesn't take much to make it have a bad cut.

FISH
Would you say that a chain deck is 100% necessity in the business? Especially for a 1 mower operation?

I would say not at all, unless you are going to set the deck to free float. ...which they are not intended to do. The Scags I run have decks suspended by chains. They tend to become unlevel quicker than the Kubotas that rely on solid threaded bolts. The anti-scalp rollers are there to compensate as a last resort. You have to get into some big bucks to get actual free-floating turf decks, like Toro or Jacobsen mowers.

I have all the different ones on site in my shop in Ponchatoula. You are more than welcome to come by and check em out. I have everything from the Scags, to Kubotas, to the Toro greens mowers.

One thing I would change about my hustler is the fixed deck. It looks perfect in fair ground, but a slight ridge will cause you to alter the way you mow, just to make it look right.

I don't sell them. I run a recreation complex, so I have plenty grass cutting equipment.
