Music and the creative arts are important. Some on here might not agree because it's not something necessary to literally keep you alive but to paraphrase from dead poets society "what's life without the beautiful things that fill it?" But God dammit I want the tiger band fully funded before anything else in the entire SOM and then they can have what's left. People donate money specifically to LSU athletics (includes tiger band) and that's where the money should go. Athletics shouldn't give a cent to the SOM knowing that they don't spend it on Tiger Band anyway.

That's bullshite. The band is funded by the athletic department. I didn't realize athletics was having "budget cuts" also. Someone is passing the buck.

You might have missed it but this is what the whole Roy King firing boiled down to. The School of Music wanted control of the GBFTL budget and he said no. He got fired and the School of Music now controls the band budget. They want to spend some of the band money on other things.

Expenses for the Band to travel are line items in the LSUAD budget. I know that for a fact (AD budgetary employee). It is the LSUAD that cut those expenses years ago and again now. The GBFTL didn't get a sum of $$$ for travel to away fball games and decide to use it elsewhere nor did the SOM.

I also "know for a fact" that the school of music and Joe Alleva "negotiated" this arrangement (travel budget). This "change" in the way the LSU band has been doing business must benefit someone......I wonder who??? Are you trying to say that the school of music does not COMPLETELY CONTROL the tiger band budget?? You would be mistaken. Let me see if I can figure this out......how about a little less $ in this part of the budget (travel), and a little more $ in this part of the budget (operating expenses/slush fund = more $ to spend on the school of music).

They are not capable of telling the truth (remember the safety issue with visiting bands). Again.....THEY think we are stupid because we sit back and accept their crap without question. I have a grandson currently in the LSU band and he has told me some incredible stories. He is majoring in construction management but has some friends who he says are music majors. They have conveyed to my grandson some "fantastic" stories that are truly hard to believe. All I can say is that if even half of these stories are true, there are some sick people in the school of music and someone should "clean house."

I wish this could happen. However, F. King would NEVER allow it. He (F. KIng) is a huge part of the problem. F. King supports the thugs in the school of music. What does that make F. KIng??

I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't let the band go later in the year.

This would never happen because LSU Athletics have already sold the seats where the full band would sit. In the future, I think LSU should let the fans know (well in advance) what game the full band will attend (if any) so fans can decide if they want to purchase tickets, hotel, etc.

That's more than Wisconsin brought to Houston. They brought 0.

What do they need a band for? They have a Cypress Hill CD from the 90's that plays "Jump Around" just fine.

If you ask LSU they'll say no, its a safety concern. No wait, yes! Yes we are. Then F king steps in and says no, it costs too much. Then they say yes.

It sucks that there's no full band trip, but not unprecedented. We didn't have one in 2009 because the trip to Washington cost too much plus the budget cuts. Also, all away game trips were either 1 night (whereas usually they are Friday-Sunday) except for Georgia which was 2 and bama which was drive there and back in a day. And that band was under Moorhouse. Maybe it's a similar decision because of the game in Green Bay? They also borderline made up for it by giving us a 5 day bowl trip (the longest one that I know of).

I don't know where you get your info but you are wrong on all points....I have spoken to Mr. Wicks (recently) about this topic and this is what HE said:
1. The lack of a full band trip in 09 was because Joe Alleva was attempting to do at LSU what he wanted the rest of the SEC AD's to do, which was eliminate ALL full band trips. He was NOT supported by the rest of the SEC so he let it go after 09. It had NOTHING to do with alleged "budget cuts."
2. For the past 10-15 years (according to Wicks), ALL band trips, full and pep bands were all 2 night trips.
3. ALL bowl trips in the past 8-10 years have been about 5 days BECAUSE THE BOWL PAYS/REQUIRES THE BAND TO STAY FOR THAT MANY DAYS.
PLEASE get your facts straight.

My son is in the band...I believe they're bringing about 110 members.
In previous years, the full band took one road trip per year plus the bowl game, but apparently that precedent has changed, and they will no longer bring the full band on a road game.
A few years ago, TGBFT traveled to Ireland to march in a St Patrick's Day parade. There was a trip scheduled for them to go to China in the next couple of years, however, it appears that's not going to happen.
Our football team/program had reached a level of excellence, but seems to be retreating to the category of mediocre. It seems the powers that be are unwilling to spend/invest to make our program as good as it can be. I think the goings on with regard to the Tiger Band are an indication that LSU has gone back to the ways of being cheap.
I hope I'm wrong, but that's how it looks to me....

Let's just hold on a minute. This isn't a trend. Yet. I'm no fan of skimping the band this year, not only for their sake but as a fan who enjoys having them at away games myself. As of now it could just be limited to this year.

Maybe....but I doubt it. I say that because there is no reason (given to the public) as to why they have made this decision.
