Well, the super kick has gone the way of the DDT.

Not just on WWE TV, either. The super kick looks more devastating than most finishing moves, much like the DDT, but now people just throw it out there 15-20 times per show and the announcers sell it like it's a bullet to the face and yet everybody kicks out.
It's time to make wrestling great again, dammit. Either sell big moves or don't do them IMO.

Dusty Rhoads says the bionic elbow is still king.

Hell, even modern day finishers don't result in a three count these days. Must do finisher three times. Unless opponent is distracted by their future PPV opponent's music and appearance on the entrance ramp, then a quick roll up will finish the match (and the heels don't even grab the tights).

I miss the days when the announcers would say that a wrestler was being "Pearl Harbored" when the bad guys would attack from behind.
And what happened to a "Pier 6 Brawl"? Did we, as a society, stop hanging out and fighting on the waterfront?

Dirty deeds is one of the most protected finishers in WWE, I can't recall ever seeing anyone kick out of it

At WM32 Ambrose gave Lesnar Dirty Deeds on a chair and he still kicked out
Most effective finishers I can think of are Razors Edge, Yokozuna's "banzai" drop, spear/jackhammer

You can thank HBK and the Undertaker for that - their two matches at 25 & 26 invented the 2.99995 count after finishers. Spread like the plague after that.

Things evolve. Back in the 80's, finishing moves were simple but protected. You wouldn't see anyone else do a kneelift except for Mr. Wrestling II. Both JYD and Dr. Death Steve Williams both used power slams to finish off opponents (of course, they were called "the thump" and "the Oklahoma Stampede" to differentiate from a "regular" power slam).

Fair point, but those were huge matches with long term buildup between huge stars. I'm talking about mid show matches on a regular show between mid card guys, in matches of no consequence. They're killing their own offense, and eliminating any shot that fans might have of them beating anyone credible on the future. I mean the moves look cool but it destroys their credibility.

That's where it started though - eventually the kickouts started happening at the other ppv's, then to tv. It's definitely aggravating as an old school fan.

Greatest move ever was the Figure Four Leg Lock by Dr. X.
