If you holdback your child, make sure you enroll them at a small private school where they can play varsity level sports starting in the 8th grade. Once they turn 19, their HS athletics career is over.

What's wrong with letting your kid struggle a little so that they grow and can handle adversity?

1) nothing to do with athletics. I have a daughter.

2) would not be 19 during Sr year. Would graduate HS and start college at 18 like the vast majority of other kids in Louisiana and like other kids in 42 other states.

The Sept 30 cutoff by Louisiana is antiquated. Kindergarten is not the same as it was when the cutoff was set and the academic calendar starts weeks earlier also.

It would make sense that cutoff date would change to reflect those changes but in Louisiana they have not.

Not true at all. You can't turn 19 before September 1st. If it's later than that, you're fine. Typically holdback in 5th grade because they changed the rules. Starting in 6th grade you have 7 years left to play sports. So you holdback in the 5th if you're going to do it. It used to be 8th grade. Happens every single year.
