But the bar and bouncers are responsible for themselves. They are gonna get sued by both guys for a several hundred thousand dollars, maybe a few million with a good lawyer. The bouncer and his buddy are gonna also going to jail.
Was it worth it for a $6 beer that probably cost them $0.75 to pour?

Lot of dumb on the bouncers part.
If I was the guy who had ordered the beer and my buddy comes in and tell me there is cheaper beer outside I would have just said "shite I just got a beer in here. Let me chug it real quick." And off I would go.

No, but we also do not know how the confrontation went down. Once other people jumped in the bouncer was justified.

The bouncer shouldn't leave where he is working to follow someone, drag them back, and brutally assault two guys with the help of his random buddy off of the street. What went on outside of the bar is not his responsibility.
Once the guy is outside of the bar, the bouncer has no authority and becomes a regular person. Since he was still on the clock, the bar is gonna be on the hook for the money also. At that point, they are paying someone to chase people down and beat them

A co worker asked me this week what I thought about her and her sister going to Bourbon Street for a birthday party.
I told her F no. F That stinking crime riddle sewer and everyone associated with it.

Justified in doing what?
I'm typing this from the stance that we do not have video. Being that the words "diffuse the situation" are in quotes, I am taking it as an attack. The initial confrontation is questionable for sure. If the friends came up and started throwing punches you can defend yourself. That's all I am saying.

You think stabbing someone with a knife was the solution? How much time have you spent in jail?

6 dollar loss or 10k+ in tort suit

this happened to me once, when the bouncer came after me i started to blow my rape whistle.

Me thinks you would find the brachial stun much more effective and of less evidentiary value.

quote:Why? I think "defuse the situation" is in quotes because it was taken straight from the police report. Since it was taken straight from the police report, quotation marks are appropriate.

I think you've got this entire situation backwards.
Timeline:
1. Man tries to leave bar without paying for beer.
2. Bouncer grabs him.
3. Man frees himself of bouncer's grasp.
4. Lacombe and bouncer start beating the shite out of him.
5. Friend pulls bouncer off.
6. Man and friend run away.
7. Bouncer and Lacombe chase them down and demand money.
7. Friend 2 tries to defuse the situation. (Defuse: to make (something) less serious, difficult, or tense. Not sure how you interpret "defuse" to mean throwing punches, but we'll slide past that.)
8. Lacombe breaks his jaw.
Is that a correct recap of the story presented in the article?

You people are missing the real problem. When did it become acceptable to charge $6 for one semi- warm beer in that piss and vomit smelling rat infested Quarter??
Usually when you shell out that many shekels you get to see some bare boobies!!

Seriously. This is how people act over $6.00?

The detective's warrant affidavit said the original customer "sustained two cracked teeth which required dental procedures," and that the third member of his group "received injuries to his jaw which required surgical procedures."
That bouncer's knuckles are probably off the charts.

I can't click the link as I am at work so I was working off the quotes. However, I did misread it. I had thought the bouncer was completely alone and that everyone else was with the guy refusing to pay. So yea, business is fricked on this one.

The bouncer's duty ended when the patron left the establishment, and should have NEVER laid his hand on a customer who was attempting to leave the establishment.
