I was excited about this but it's reviews have not been good. Does anybody have any input? I was going to see it tomorrow but I am thinking about seeing The Shallows now.

It is a movie about the civil war south that doesn't make everyone seem like racist and portrays the south in a decent light.
How the hell do you think it is going to review?

That's funny because the Political Board already told me that this film was going to have critics raving about it all the way to its inevitable best picture nomination and win.

My coworker went to see it this weekend and he said it's basically a white guilt movie.

It's funny how quickly people backtrack.

I enjoyed it
There was a few black people in the theater when I saw it and they got really into it. Like hooting and hollering out loud when a confederate general/soldier was killed. It was actually pretty funny just listening to them.

My wife saw it. Loved it.
I saw two things about this movie and knew instantly my wife would love it.
1.) It got bad reviews
2.) Matthew McConaughey was in it

Dude would have been Bernie supporter.

However, many believe Knight's principal reason for desertion was his outrage over the Confederate government's passing of the Twenty Negro Law. This act allowed wealthy plantation owners to avoid military service if they owned twenty slaves or more. An additional family member was exempted from service for each additional twenty slaves owned. Knight had also received word that his brother-in-law, Morgan, who had become the head of the family in Knight's absence, was abusing Knight's children8]

You mean in a film where the main character wants to succeed from "the south?"

Because of the subject or that it's getting bad reviews?
