6) Plaquemines Parish District Rating: 103
Schools in this district were given a score of 123 by the state and 43% of the schools earned an "A" rating.
7) Orleans Parish School District: 102.225
While only 7.5% of schools in the greater New Orleans area have earned an "A" ranking, the Orleans Parish School district has a number of the best schools in the state, catapulting the district to #7 on this list.
8) Livingston Parish School District: 99.05
Located in the Livingston Parish school district, which earned a state ranking of 117.4 and is home to 19 schools with an “A” rating.
9) Allen Parish School District: 97
A small district north of Lake Charles, 45% of the schools here earned an "A" rating from the state.
10) St. Bernard Parish School District: 93.1

Going out in Lafayette sucks. I pretty much keep my drinking to the Whole
Foods bar, Parish, and the beer garden downtown. Corner bar isn't bad I suppose. Trash oilfield baws have pretty much infested everything else.

I really like the Whole Foods bar and Parish. I haven't been to the new beer garden, but I've heard good things from my wife. Last time I went to Corner Bar it was douche central, which is disappointing because it wasn't always like that, or maybe I was blind to it. Corner Bar Youngsville was fine the few times I went there, but that was typically afternoon drinking.

The beer garden is pretty cool, the lack of Bud/Miller/Coors and higher prices have done a good job of keeping the trash out. Downtown really needed a good spot to day drink, with the success the beer garden has had I'd bet similar places will be popping up within the next few years.
One thing I always enjoyed about JSP in college was the myth/rumor going around in the small towns around Lafayette that they had a collared shirt dress code for men and dresses for girls. I don't know how that started but it kept the place as a Ronnie free zone.

Most of the best schools and school districts as a whole are in South La Chief, and they are largely concentrated in the B.R. and N.O. metros.

People mention the weather as a bad thing. It's nice for 8 months out of the year. I'll take that over a iced over miserable existence of a northern state. They get heat waves, too.

I've never heard of that myth, but it was one of the better places downtown when I lived in Lafayette ~5 years or so ago.

You can laugh, but obviously you know nothing about the area. There's 2 public school districts in Orleans Parish and the Orleans Parish school district is the smaller of the two. They kept most of the magnet schools and better schools. The recovery school district is larger and it is where most of the poor schools are found and even they are getting better.

Raised in Louisiana, Love the terrain, history and life in Louisiana. Moved to texas, doubled my salary, met OPEN minded folks, Educated, don't pay state income Tax and everyone positive. Moved back to Louisiana briefly for a job, could not find anyone who wanted to cut my grass, no contractors called back for bids, everyone had the worst attitude, paid fee after fee to local and state government. Sorry folks it sucks. Happy to be back in teas.
