let's be completely honest. We made the CWS in 2015 without him and we made the supers this year and earned a national seed with a completely rebuilt lineup, largely without him, this year. If anyone is the greatest that never was, he is. Sure, it would have been nice for him to have lived up to his potential, but losing him will result in us being in no worse shape than if he never came to LSU in the first place.

This trope has become so lazy on this board.

It just baffles me as to why a great baseball program like LSU never has more than 1 really good pitcher. Teams like Vandy, Florida, Fullerton, and many more consistently have 2 or 3 dominant starting pitchers. What are these other teams doing to get all these big time pitchers to come that we can't seem to figure out?

Agree. It's probably more important that Mckay develop. We were all assuming he'd be the Saturday starter based on him throwing a max of what 3-4 innings 1 time. I have no reason to believe that he would have come in next year and been able to throw 7,8 or 9 innings with a full arsenal of pitches....and then come back on a weeks rest to repeat.

Well that would suck if he leaves!

Honestly it's just not even worth being harsh to the guy. I'd imagine it's pretty humbling to passing up so much money when he was drafted in high school to seeing LSU move on, with or without him.
Best of luck to the baw. I wish he stayed, but oh well. He would have been a big piece to next year's team, but I think LSU will be fine.

LSU's Doctor and Trainer are top notch. Trust me. If Latz wants to blame someone, he can go look in a mirror.
This.

Umm, we've had two great starters on many occasions. We've just always struggled with a third starter

That's certainly true but I think the fact that he's a lefty that throws 90s, was highly recruited, and is someone we've actually seen be productive, had many LSU fans hoping he would step up next year.
Add in the fact that it would also be a feel good story because of his injuries and you've got a fan favorite and a guy LSU fans were really pulling for.

People are just bummed that LSU finally caught massives breaks in the draft, and never really got to enjoy Marshall, Latz, and Godfrey

You do realize it was a not even 5 years ago that we had Gausman and Nola in the same rotation, right?

And Ranaudo and Coleman before that

Pretty much my sentiments. That recruiting class was ridiculous and we finally got lucky. Had they all panned out we'd have the most dominate pitching staff where our midweek starter could actually be an ace or day 2 starter.
Until LSU gets at least 3 solid starting pitchers on the mound we'll never win Omaha. When we had Coleman, Renaudo and Ross that was a really damn good 3. Ross was probably the last good day 3 starter we had.

Yep. Amazing we finished with the best ERA in the SEC in 2014 and the second best in 2015. Imagine what we could do if we just had some pitching!
