In all seriousness, the colonial times were very fascinating to me. Our founding fathers were fricking smart people.

I was trying to find a frog or amphibian-related pun from a Vikings player's name. Kluwe was the best I could do. Sorry.

Alan Page was pretty good as well.

Because America is following down their exact path to downfall and collapse as a society.

People always say this but I wonder how similar they are. I don't think they're similar except both are/were big.

We're in the late Roman Republican period right now. Every election cycle the executive has more power than the last. When the Romans hit the Roman Empire period, they had an emperor, and a senate that was just for show. We are on that track now.

Then we still have another 500- 1500 years to go, if you count Byzantium.

America might not fall for a while, but that doesn't mean it'll still be a pleasant place to live.

I doubt Rome was a pleasant place to live for 90% of it's inhabitants.

I just don't see the clear parallel between the USA and Rome.

In terms of how they were founded and the history of the two there aren't really.

The comparison is mostly like you say just because they both are large and highly influential. You can look at the system of government as probably the biggest similarity, but that shouldn't be surprising seeing as the US government is largely based off of the original Roman model. Also, much of what you can mark as the major achievements of the two are engineering accomplishments, although thinking about that a little that is kind of the mark of most if not all great civilizations.

The Romans are my favorite. Their technological, architectural, and logistical prowess still challenges what we do today.

However, there are so many structures and cities that we have found over the last few decades that our conventional timeline of human development cannot explain. I would love to find out more about the people who built Poverty Point, Gobleki Tepe, Byblos, the Bosnian Pyramids, Puma Punku, ect
