Gift certificate expiration

My 72 year old grandmother was given a $50 gift certificate to a nail salon a few months back.
When she went in today to use it the owner said it was expired and she would not accept it.
There is an expiration date posted on the gift certificate but it was only 6 months from the purchase date. It "expired" literally 5 days ago.
My question is can I go in there with a copy of the state law and demand she accept it for her?
In the state of Louisiana I thought gift cards/certificates could not be given an expiration date shorter than five years from the purchase.

I would ask for a refund, yes the law is 5 years.

I have no idea what state law requires. But if you show up with a copy of state law, she might get the gift honored and get a really shitty nail job.
Seriously, what did she expect? The expiration date was there in plain sight, if having the certificate honored was important to her she should have gone a month ago.

Maybe she was in the hospital and unable to make it.
Maybe she forgot.
Not really the point.
A business owner is being highly unreasonable (a few days since printed expiration) and also breaking state law.

The terms were formally extended and she didn't take advantage of them. She wasn't in the hospital the entire time.
And if she forgot, that's on her.

Oh look an OT lawyer. Contract law doesn't protect a contract if it violates a law.
Just quit

Are you kidding me? Booo frickin Hooo! Bringing an expired official or unoffical gift card to and independent business owner and frivolously threatening them is asinine. You're out $50. Move on.

Why is it that grandma is expected to read the gift card but business operating in Louisiana is not expected to read the statute that governs it?

Don't 'demand' anything. That won't get you anywhere. Be as reasonable as possible, but firm. Probably a good idea to have a copy of the statute but don't wave it around or make any threats of calling the cops, etc. Just be plain, this is what the law is, we would like a refund.
I'm going to guess that the owners of this business are not native English speakers and probably have no clue that such a law exists.

Lol. If they don't provide a refund, call the agency that handles the business licensing for your state. Make a nice little complaint.

You can also file a complaint with BBB.

Oh know, their rating at the bottom of google search that no one sees tanks. That is, if they don't already pay BBB for a high rating to begin with
