I am from north STT parish and would prefer to live there however land prices are steep and only rising. With the amount of land I am looking for my options are few without spending a very large amount of $. I have been contemplating Washington Parish and figured I would throw Tangi in as well as it cant be any worse than Washington.

The more north you go in Tanghi, the worse it gets.

It's honestly a nice area. The south end of the parish is growing rapidly. They are trying to get the growth under control and have done a decent job in stopping trailer parks from popping up all over the place. Downtown Hammond is arguably one of the nicest downtowns in LA.

The Hammond area schools have some really good tracks for education with IB programs and montisorri programs offered. If that doesn't work for you Holy Ghost, Saint Thomas, trafton, and the lab school are great as well.

How much land do your want and how much do you plan to spend per acre?

What is your comfort level in length of commute to work? For children's commute to school?

Tangi towns north of Hammond have been fairly crappy, but Amite is getting better. Can't wait for the JBE Gubernatorial Library to open there in 2026.

Land in northern Tangi had been plentiful and cheap but with ZERO amenities for Quality of Life. Land along the Tuscaloosa trend may have increased in price due to the potential for oil/fracking and all of the North Tangi natives expecting to be the next hillbillyonnaire.

I didn't learn much during my time at SLU, but I did learn that under no circumstances would I be settling in the Hammond, La region.

Loranger is a very nice place. And a good school. One of the best in Tangipahoa.
I have lived there my entire life. The comments about the further north you go the worse it gets have some truth to it. But just like everywhere else, it depends on where u are. Stay out the hood, won't have hood problems.
IMO, the Hammond area is the best place. It's centrally located. I can be in Nola, Slidell, Gonzales and BR within a hour. I don't see myself ever living anywhere else

Hammond, Ponchatoula and Loranger are some really cool areas of Tangi. The Hammond area downtown and SLU are my favs.

The Tangi parish govt is exceptionally well run.
