Why are tickets so expensive for Copa semifinals in Houston?

I understand its a big game and Messi is coming to town, but these prices are ridiculous. Minimum $185 for a crappy upper deck seat and $300 for all lower bowl seats. There's no way your typical US fan can afford tickets at these prices. I bought Final 4 Tickets and Texans playoff tickets for cheaper.

I wish the semis were flipped...
I'm thinking about going to Columbia v Chile anyway...

That's how they've been pricing tickets for the entire tournament
Why? No one knows

Because this event in this location with these teams is a once in a lifetime situation

Paid 400 after fees and such for a pair of club level tickets after the game Thursday night for the USA/Messi show.
I figured I was getting off cheap for that price.

didn't it just come out that they want to move Copa America to the US permanently?

I bought lower bowl tickets 2 months ago for this game for $190 a piece. A chance to see messi is priceless, the fact that USA made it is just icing on top of the cake for me.

Sorry but thats insane

It might be insane compared to what you pay for league games in Europe, but it's comparable to football tickets.

Its insane compared to the actual Euro's going on right now. A tournament with bigger stars and better quality.
There is a reason a lot of these matches are not sold out. Sad when a US match that big in Seattle of all places is no where close to a sell out.

Maybe they saved their money for the semifinal... Houston is a more convenient city anyway.

I can get a ticket for $110 - upper deck at Soldier field.. tempted..

wut???
Seattle is one of the hot beds of US Soccer which on the regular has outstanding support.

Yeah I completely agree with that but it's a big stadium to fill against Ecuador. If I had to bet, not many people from the east coast traveled to Seattle for the game. There will be people from all over to watch the game Tuesday, probably the reason why the tickets are so high.

Its stupid. A co worker offered me his friend's ticket when he bailed. Cool, going to see Messi.. "How much?"-"150" "hell naw ****!"
and I live next to the stadium

Not loads of Americans are traveling across the country for this tournament b/c airfare, hotels and tickets is just way to much.

Probably not as much as you think. The US matches have relied big time on local support.

Tickets have been high the entire tournament. It's a joke and just shows how big a money grab this really was. From their fail making people buy over priced ticket packages. Then selling single match tickets way over priced when the initial plan failed.
I think its even more frustrating bc they never lowered prices even the day of the match when it wasn't sold out. Then you would also see people selling off tickets part of those packages for $10 or less for a lower level on the secondary market but ticketmaster still had them $70+ for upper deck.

I feel like if the pipe dream combined Copa America - every 4 years to determine both Confed Cup spots - materialized, people would be more willing to pay up? Maybe not.
Size of stadiums is also working against us for this particular event, IMO. Soccer-specific stadiums are too small, and the NFL stadiums in many cases too large (think smallest venue is 60K in Orlando). Having some 40K-ish stadiums like the Euros would have helped. Oh well.

The supply, was there. The demand was there... but the demand went away when people saw how much they cost.

We are talking about the semifinal man not any other matches. Everyone who cares about soccer and can afford it will be there. A chance to see the best player to ever play the game is priceless. That's why tickets are going for $300 consistently.
