Kid responded to getting moved up with the added pressure. (Shameless plug) LINK

I'm worried that we'll lose Deichmann to the draft

Can we still redshirt him?

In my estimation he has a rather long swing which makes him have to start his swing early which can lead to problems.
I think he needs to correct that long stroke to succeed at the next level, but with his power and athleticism he might be tempted to go now and have the big league guys work with him.
A big issue is where will he play in the field? He really isn't a first baseman.

He could get that coaching in rookie ball while playing a more natural position. He could make himself more money by returning and playing well, but at worst case he goes pro and stays in rookie ball all summer and plays in a short season affiliate again next year.

Agreed. He would gain a lot by returning for one more, but he has the tools, and there's money to be thrown around.

Deichmann doesn't walk all that much, but his strikeouts are overblown. He's leading the team, and comfortably at that, but it's still only 17% of his plate appearances. That's not an outrageous number.
I'm currently researching to find the average K rate for d1.

He has a long swing, but to me it looks long after contact. It doesn't look too bad before contact by my eyes, but I'm surly not a real swing analysts

nice article, but a tip for next time, when you mention he's changed his swing and has hit better since moving up in the order, come up with some stats to show how well he has hit over that time. The fans would eat that up.

Just to emphasize how little LSU strikes out, Deichmann strikes out the most of our regulars at 16.59% of plate appearances.
Of every plate appearance in D1 this season, 17.46% of them ended in strikeouts.
So every one of our regulars is below the gross average.

he does have a longer, sweeping swing, but he has quick hands and great bat speed. It gets through the zone rather quickly

We really shouldn't especially since he can come back, improve and still have full leverage being a junior. IF he can produce even more power and also increase his average (which he absolutely could), that will only help himself out come the 2017 draft vs. 2016.

What position do you think that would be? His future seems to be either 1st or 3rd and he has had a chance to play both.

This. He can leave this year, but his money year would be 2017.
Stay, hit .330+, mash 15 HRs and he would be a 1st round pick.

The kid needs more time in college. Below average fielder. Can only hit fastballs. Huge problem with off speed. He needs another year of Cannizaro coaching.

I don't see him declaring for the draft this soon

There is no declaring for the draft. He will get drafted the question is will he sign or not.

he strikes out a lot compared to the guys on our team, but our team led the league, by a WIDE margin, in fewest strike outs
