You're off here. Mainieri doesn't normally pitch his number 2 guy in game 1. But I felt he would do it here and it's the right move in my opinion. As good as this team has been, it has had spurts of struggling to piece together hits and runs. For that reason and the inexperience of our staff, that is probably why he is going with Poche.

Good points. For many of our hitters, it's their first action starting in the NCAA tournament so their could be 1st time jitters. With a young team that's had up and down moments particularly with mid week level opponents, PM's throwing Poche sends a message that we mean business and aren't taking UVU lightly. I expect the move will focus the team.
