Why Is Kevin Such An a-hole To Paul On Wonder Years?

First time I have got around to watching this show on Netflix. Kevin is a good kid but such an a-hole to his best friend, Paul. I want to like Kevin more than I actually do.
I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Kevin's dad is a fricking a-hole too. Kevin's mom is such a sweetheart and the old man is just a dick.

Kevin knew Paul would grow up to be a mass murderer like Dylan Klebold or some cult figure like Marilyn Manson. All of those goofy kids do, you know.

This. Most best friends are kinda like this. Kevin is a dick, but Paul's cautious advice is usually correct and Kevin eats crow a lot. They feed off each other like best friends do, and come through for each other when it really counts.

Kevin was an a-hole to everyone.

The character of Kevin Arnold was an a-hole in general.

Ding ding ding.
A lot of bullies have a-hole dads. Even though Kevin was basically a decent, well meaning kid, he was raised in a family that included a take-no-shite dad and full bully of an older brother. Even though Kevin liked Paul, his instinct was to treat him like shite. Paul could see through it and didn't take it personally.
Once Paul came into his own through basketball and new friends, he no longer felt the need to placate Kevin's little shite attitude.

bullshite he is. He's a war vet who works a job he absolutely hates to support his family. If he's overly irritable it's because of that. One of the first episodes - where Kevin goes to work with his dad and sees his dad take the heat for some underling's screwup- demonstrates that he's a good man. His dad is stubborn no doubt but comes through for his kids throughout the series.
He's kind of an ahole with Karen but she pushes his buttons.

Yeah, Karen intentionally antagonizes him.
Best episode, maybe of the whole series, is the one where Kevin goes to work with him. You'll never see his dad the same way again after you watch that. If you watch any episode where his dad has a prominent roll aside form that one, you may think he is an a-hole, but that episode showed that he's a decent guy working a job he hates and despite that he treats people at work well. His dad's not a drunk or a beater, he doesn't cheat, and he's there for his family. He's a good guy.

Absolutely. Another good one is when Wayne tries to go off to join the army. Great stuff.
Jack is stubborn to a fault though, but the show always resolves it amicably. I'd rather watch a realistic father prone to being stuck in his ways from time to time than some saint of a dad on unrealistic crap like seventh heaven.
