I am in the market for a 9mm. Anyone recommend one of these over the other, or is it six vs a half dozen?

Hummmmm.....
....just guessing but I would say glock.
Have you looked at any Sigs?

Have you handled and shot them both? Why those two guns? Have you tried any others?
If you are down to those 2 then go shoot them both and buy the one that you shoot more proficiently and that's comfortable.

I've never heard Walther and junk in the same sentence. Thanks Tigerdroppings!

Hard to beat a Glock 17 IMO, but its a little big for concealed carry, for me. They do make a single stack for that purpose, though. For general use and accuracy, though, I'd go Glock, it just fits me really well, but to each their own. Use what you like, and try shooting one before you buy, if you can...

Is their an intended purpose for the pistol?

As you read through this thread and the responses given, you see the issue with people and their interpretations of guns (among other things).
You have two specific guns mentioned and in my mind a great case could be made for either depending upon your criteria. As many have stated, other similar makes and brands would be up for consideration as well.
The way I see it a vast majority of people hear GLOCK or HK or SIG and well by price and name alone they are the best and if you don't have one of those it's junk. That's their opinion. I have 5 Walthers and I love every one of them.
Do your research and look for facts. Hold and shoot what you are thinking of purchasing if you have the ability to do so. Look at things you may not think of such as breakdown (you would be surprised on some models just how big of a pain that is for cleaning).
Then make the best decision for YOU that you can

I agree with FromtheVilles.
My take is that Glocks are like volvo's. They're boxy, but they are good.
I like the ergonomic feel of the P99 by a mile. Comfort in your hand and comfort shooting go a long ways towards personal accuracy.
Now, I admit a mild bias here. Glock are the least left-hand friendly of pistols. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt.
P99 over a glock.
I went H&K and have never looked back!

The ergonomics are exactly what did it for me with the Walther. It's almost like each Walther I have held was made to fit my hand. That goes a long way in my eyes.

Maybe you're thinking of the wrong Walther....or maybe you're just retarded

My dad just got a brand new Walther P22 and it won't strike the primer.

Damn really? That's crazy. Warranty will cover that yeah?

The P22 Walther is sometimes a fickle pistol. When I first bought mine I purposely took the two clips and the pistol straight out of the box and to the range. 60 rounds in with multiple brand 22lr and I had malfunctions of not wanting to fire. I called Walther and I even stated that I will clean thoroughly and try again before sending back and the tech agreed. They have an EXCELLENT warranty with return time, shipping, etc..... I have since cleaned (I will say the breakdown of the P22 is somewhat aggravating) and have fired hundreds of rounds of multiple brand 22lr without issue.
I myself am comfortable with all aspects of Walther as in this case and alot of times I believe to be people jumping to conclusions on many brands of guns without properly doing their due diligence. My thought is the P22 needed a thorough cleaning prior to being shot (typically always recommended) and I have found that firing this pistol wet with a few drops of gun oild in the slide area helps immensely.
Just my 2 cents.

Is it the same Walther that I own @ P38 , A PPK . PPKS, because there crap too. if I wanted a gun that stove pipes, fails to fire when needed or a ploymer copycat then its the Same walther your refering too.
Ive carried Berattas Colts Sigs, Glock and Smith for over 25 years and I average 25k rounds a year in my duty weapon. im also a certified armorer in all the above plus Remington and H&K. Personally Im not a Glock fan either. If I was to only have one gun and ditched the 100 plus that I do have it would be a J Frame 357 which will put a hole in your forehead at 75 yds. Try that with the Walther dumbass.

Had the same problem with a SR22. 22 pistols are very finicky
