Appliance Help Needed: Dryer getting scorching hot

Mom called me to see what her dryer was doing. Maytag Bravos 300 MEDB400VQ0 is the model. I cleaned all of the lint out of the dryer and the line and it's still hot. Tried running it on "air fluff" just to see and it's heating even on air fluff. I took the back off to check the thermostat and element. It isn't even on the back of the machine. I guess I have to take the front off and the drum??? Help por favor

Is the exhaust completely clear?

Google tells me it's a shorted out element

I think it's something else. Hell I can't even find the element to test it. But we know it's working.

check exhaust to outside of house
eta: is air being blown at all? remove exhaust hose an see if fan is blowing. you may just have your heat working but no air flow

Again, 100% clear. All the way to outside. Air is coming out. Hot as balls air

Bad temperature sensor? You can find them under the drum. Have fun tearing it down to get to it. You can test them with a multimeter to find out once you find it.
I am no Napolean though so I am probably talking out of my arse.

My guess is that it's a thermostat and that it's somewhere mounted under the drum which means I'll have to disassemble the entire thing. Which sucks balls

Tore my parents down last weekend and it's in my shop waiting on new drum rollers and a new drum belt that will be here next week. It's not terrible to tear them down. There's really nothing to them.
ETA: This is what was happening to theirs to cause it to overheat.
quote:
Most dryers have a felt seal at the front and rear of the drum to prevent heat from escaping the drum. If the seal is worn out or missing, the heat will not be drawn through the drum properly, causing the dryer to get too hot. Check the drum seal to ensure that it is creating a reliable seal around the drum. However, this is rarely the case. Before replacing the felt seal check all the more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the felt seal.
It's not always the thermostat and electric parts. The rollers that supported the drum and the drum belt were all going bad. The drum had slipped down some causing it not to operate correctly. When spinning, the drum rubbed against the metal of the front of the machine and caused friction plus it allowed the felt to be misaligned.

That's interesting. I've never heard of that before. I'll have to pull it apart.

Great response. I can't find one thing online about taking this thing apart.

I found several Youtube videos when I was taking mine apart to change the drum belt.

Time to roll it in the backyard and for it to go the way of Old Yeller

quote:The rollers and belt would be making a lot of noise if that was the issue. That doesn't make the dryer overheat like he's describing.

There's also a filter in the back of the drum on some units that gets clogged, Broke did you see anything like that? (not the regular lint filter but one mounted on the back of the drum itself.
