Same here. People should be free to fly whatever flag they like but every single person I've ever met who flew the confederate flag was openly racist. Not saying everyone is, just the ones I've met.

It's ridiculous. I support your right to fly whatever flag you wan - its a fricking flag after all - but the idea that the flag doesn't represent racism is asinine. I've made the unfortunate acquaintance of quite a few people who have flown the flag, and every single one of them is openly racist.

I'd actually be interested to meet someone who flies it who is not a racist. Seriously.

Every slave brought into the united states was under the stars and stripes, the klan often uses the condederate battle flag but not always, there is one flag they always use, can you guess which one? Can someone explain how the stars and stripes isnt rascist?

You're missing the point completely. What it is or what it was is irrelevant to this conversation - the point is that is has been adopted by racists across the south.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that racism is much more prevalent in the northern US than it is in the south, but that being said, every single person I've known to fly the battle flag or talk about the south rising again is a racist.

Do you know people who fly the flag? If so, are they mostly open racists? That is my experience, and the experience of many on this board.

No i get your point, im sticking to the OP's origonal point, the confederate flag is treated as a pariah when in fact old glory gets a pass a a bastion of freedom when in reality its at least as culpable... But i do agree most people that continue to fly the flag have commandeered the flag for rascist reasons, but at the same time ate just as likely to fly the stars and stripes, but seriously i do get your point.

The Confederacy was not racist, they loved black people. You see what they were bringing at the markets? Sorry, I digress.

It is all the descendants that came later that cried racist. Black people were just cheaper back in those days so they got used as slaves. No racism involved. If the planter's could've found strong white Norwegians they would've used them, so it's not about racism but profit. Same as Jesse, MLK, Sharpton, scream racist or bigot... profit.

Our ancestors, be it white, green, or purple didn't use the flag as sign of racism, bigotry, etc., we did. Be it the scrawny white dude flying it from a truck or the civil rights activist bitching about it.

No argument there.

People really aren't worried about the facts behind a symbol, and I said as much earlier. It is all about perception, and fair or not, the American flag gets a pass in America.

It certainly did crush women, blacks, Japanese, jews, Italians, Irish, bastards, poors, etc. Mm

Pretty much anyone who isn't a rich decendent of upperclass British nobility has been defeated by America at some point in time.

It literally wasn't, according to factual history.

But don't let stupid shite like facts and history get in your way.

It was fought to expand and cement the power of the federal government over the states. And it achieved it's goal.

Whoa, I've never heard of this before in my life:

quote:

As perceived slur[edit]
The phrase predates the use of the word "spade" as an ethnic slur against African Americans,[5] which was not recorded until 1928; however, in contemporary U.S. society, the idiom is often avoided due to potential confusion with the slur

Figures.

95% centered around slavery. It was the root cause, plain and simple.

We can discuss the political climate of the time, but if the south didn't feel threatened about the future of their slave-based economy, secession and war never would have come.
