That seems like a lot of work. He should just shoot himself in the leg and tell her he was mugged on the way home and the thief stole her gift and flowers. He'll get time off from work, good pain meds from the hospital, and lots of sympathy from the wife. I don't see where he can lose.

Yeah, you knew, but thought she didn't. You thought she forgot. You had plans that obviously would eventually show you hadn't forgotten, but wanted to see if she had.

I think he's gotta wait it out now. Call her from the car on the way home and be all cheesy like "I hope you're dressed, we're going out." She'll think you're sort of a douche, but better that than a forgetful a-hole
