As the article stated, I believe the body will reject the new head causing him to die.
But hell, im not the doctor here. But this is definitely insane.

Looks like he has nothing to lose by trying. This might eventually be a viable surgery, and the first attempt will help it become a reality.
If they can prevent rejection he's no worse off.
