ouch
hooray parachute payments.
Their board frick this up big time. They would have stayed up if they didn't wait so long to fire Steve McLaren. Rafa wasn't doing a bad job.
Swansea must be laughing all the way to the bank 12 million for Jonjo Shelvey.

It serves the traitor Colback right. Karma is a bi-otch.

Amazing they stuck with McClaren that long. Also, Watford splashing dat cash.
Man i wish it were possible to somehow get relegated without dropping down a division so Leeds could keep getting those bad boys

Yes. And Swansea writers/fan twitter this week has been great retweeting some of the crap Newcastle was saying after the transfer. All of them were basically "Swansea has now relegated themselves with the Jonjo sale"

Oh Jack, it wasn’t meant to be this way
From Arsenal and City, to Rotherham away
Desperate to join your boyhood club
Proud to be an unwanted Mag sub
All because you swapped ha’way for howay
Oh Jack, it wasn’t meant to be this way
Orange on top and yellow of heart
At left back you got the occasional start
Were you so desperate to play with Coloccini?
To link up with the Jawdee Gini?
How long must you have thought
About their impressive airport
Before you decided to depart?
We gave you a chance, offered a contract too
Instead, Cattermole got to snap you in two
We understand, you didn’t want another relegation fight
You ran to the Mags from the Stadium of Light
You got to see thousands of Jawdees screaming themselves hoarse
Passion that became anger that became assault of a horse
And what a great move it turned out to be
Now that you get to visit Huddersfield and Bristol City
A transfer as baffling as a Lee Ryder turn of phrase
But as the Ginger Pirlo, you got to dazzle and amaze
The Mags crooned and crowed
"How could you have let him go?"
Little did they know…
You got to take every corner and every free-kick
And I can hardly give you stick
You saved the day
In so many ways
Like the Jawdee Michelangelo
You painted the Mags in our shadow
Helped them forge a path in England’s second tier
While Wor Al shed a solitary tear
The True Geordie shouts and splutters "the Mags are doon"
Like Jabba the Hutt in his mother’s back room
But little Jacky boy is still the Pride of the Toon
A clear sign of progress by the Jawdee boardroom
It doesn’t matter about the 88 million spent
Or even your season of torment and descent
Because little ginger Jack is playing left-back for the Toon
And so au revoir, ciao ciao, and good day
I hope you and the Mags enjoy Rotherham away
-some drunk Sunderland fan

I appreciate yalls interest in my shite show of a club, but we'll be back straight away just like last time.
and without the free 6 points they get from us Sunderland will be down next year.
Long con: [on] off

Don't look now, but Sunderland have only lost once since March. That loss came to Leicester.
I'm not predicting a Leicester level turnaround- but mid table for Sunderland next season wouldn't surprise me at all if they can replicate this form. They've gotten better every week since basically the beginning of February and Defoe is a bonafide assassin
They only took 4 points off Newcastle this season for the record

I agree. If they keep the team together I could see a solid mid table finish for them.
Sam came out recently and said the Jozy and Defoe swap was the best bit of business they did. Based on goal output I have to agree, but the problem is that their midfield was complete shite when Jozy was there. He actually played much better than Fletcher or Wickham did, imo (none of whom were with the club this year anyway), and one of the MLS writers had a nice statistical overview that showed how much better they were with Jozy on the field compared to other strikers. Wrong system for Jozy, and probably wrong team and manager too. Not a fan of Defoe because of how he treated MLS, but he's been a fantastic signing for them. Having better players behind him than Jozy ever did certainly helps though.

If Rafa stays it won't even be that big a deal other than having to go to firstrow

You're spot on. Dicanio a train wreck and poyet way too possession based during the bulk of his time at Sunderland. He had horrific service from midfield and then he blew a few easy chances which further killed his confidence. All credit to Jermain Defoe though. At almost 34 the guy is in better shape than 95 percent of the league. He doesn't drink or part and lives very clean. At 5'6"-5'7" he's essentially played as a lone striker and bagged 15 league goals... Thats just remarkable.
We amassed 26 points over last 17 games and even conservatively doubling that over 38 under Sam would produce a solid higher end mid table finish.
I can't say enough about Sam. He has been harping on 38 points since the moment he arrived when we were so deep on the hole and I'll be damned if it wasn't exactly what was needed this year. His January transfer window of Khazri, Kone, Kirchoff were huge bargains and those three players were all extremely crucial in the run in.

hopefully you guys sell Bridcutt on the cheap

I don't think it will be an issue. He's been really good for you guys. I guess that's to be expected since poyet thought he could play for RM.
