I've found that's true in Jamaica, Costa Rica and Belize as well.
They'd rather deal with delaying their flight than dealing with getting people who missed the flight to their destinations.
Schedules there are hypotheticals.

I typically aim for at least 45 minutes when booking a flight. I don't know if I'd go 30 minutes, but maybe if it's a small airport.

Depends on the airport where you are changing planes.

Yeah, that's a good point. I bought the ticket for $578 (not sure why system was acting up). I mean I got it on Avianca's website, not Expedia or something, so I would think they are aware of the short connection and will make it happen.

Or else I'll be in El Salvador all day

You'll be safe at the airport. Lots of security there for the drugs coming through.

Tegucigalpa, Honduras

One of the sketchiest airports I have traveled to.

Between the approach and landing coming over the mountain ridge and dropping into the valley, and the mass hysteria at customs. I would a lot more time for arrival and departure.

Not sure how large the airport is but I do 30-35 mins frequently in ATL.
