in Championship game according to the sports report on WAFB at 5:40 am.

That's weird....does anyone know if this has ever happened before in a Championship game? I know it's happened in lesser bowls....

this was announced yesterday

I know the players want it and he says he wants it but there's no way he can be giving 100% of his attention to us. I think it was Corso who was waving his pencil saying that, in that situation there is always something missing. Half of his mind is thinking about putting a coaching staff together, recruiting, etc.

Don't know about championship games, but you're right; it has happened in other bowl games and hardly ever turns out well (Richt with Fla St after accepting UGA job, for example)
Posted on 12/4/07 at 8:42 am to tiger_88
Corso got real pissed about it b/c he's a Fla St. guy and Richt coached that game and I don't think they scored a TD all game and going in they were like the #1 offense in the country.
Posted on 12/4/07 at 8:42 am to tiger_88
The Richt situation was for the NC against OK if I'm not mistaking.
Posted on 12/4/07 at 8:51 am to LSUPERMAN
I think it will be OK. The players want him and if you look at the rest of our staff no one has any top cooridinator exp.

Pelini wants a ring because it will give him more star power with recruits. He also has a good staff so we should be fine.

Not sure but did Cutcliffe coach UT in 98 before going to Ole Miss?

no he did not...randy sanders was promoted from within.

do you really think that matters? do you really think every coach and players will devote 100% of their attention to this game????? i sure the hell hope not. it may sounds good, but we all know it isn't true.
these people (coaches and players alike) have families, friends, hobbies and interests seperate from beating OSU in 4 weeks
will it hurt pelinis preparation, no...how can you think it would?
do you think he'll be in the booth and forget he is coaching LSU and start daydreaming about playing OU and Texas?
do you think he'll be on the practice field and during stretching he'll just wonder off and lose his place as he thinks about who he wants to play TE next year at nebraska?
if anything it tells me how smart miles is knowing he needs pelini. miles obviously knows that nobody knows this defense better than pelini and bringing someone knew it to institute a new defense in a month OR letting someone else coach pelilnis defense would be a HUGE step down from keeping pelini on
IF LSU's defense has problems against OSU it won't be b/c we kept our coach who has led us to prominant national rankings since his arrival on campus was "distracted" with nebraska
quote:

how does your mind work? are you able to do something that involves extreme mental attention and not think about other things simultaneously? i know i can
he isn't dealing with family deaths or anything, just a career change
there is no reason to think he can't function
the reason you don't see this done is not b/c the school that loses the coach doesn't want thtme to stick around, it is usually b/c the new school that hires them wants them on the staff ASAP
i think the fact that Osborne is a former coach and knows how important it is for pelini to be at LSU for this and how that could eventually help him at nebraska (having a coord with a nat'l title ring) was huge in this.
it shows the respect and ability for 2 programs to work together and i think a win win for everyone involved...skip, miles, bo, osborne, lsu and nebraska

While I'm nervous about it I think it will be ok. The recruiting dead period begins what.......Dec. 17? That's plenty of time for him to work with us for a couple of weeks I think. They hired him early so he can recruit hard for a couple of weeks, hire assistants and then come back here and finish up his job.
It's not like the schemes aren't in place already. They just need to watch film and come up with a plan of attack. 2-3 weeks should be sufficient time to do that in my opinion.

so if he hadnt taken the Nebraska job, he would have to think about:
a. LSU DC
b. families, friends, hobbies, interests
Now that he has taken it, he'll have:
a. Nebraska HC
b. LSU DC
c. families, friends, etc.
And you think it won't hurt his preparation? Being Nebraska's HC simply has to be his #1 priority right now. It will take away from the time he would normally spend on LSU. That's not even questionable.
At this point, you let him coach b/c even if he cant spend the normal amount of time on LSU, he's still better than whatever other option Miles has (or so Miles believes).

you just believe whatever the hell you want to believe, dont you?

unless of course his constrained preparation time hurts LSU

I like Pelini in there. Let him serve his tenure. He said he would coach till the season ended, let him. He's seen what happened to previous DC that were leaving, and he's better than that.

no! do you think he is retarded?
seriously, how stupid do you think he is?
LSU is off right now...he is working for nebraska. going through coaching staff possibilities and recruits ETC, but if you think he won't watch enough film on OSU before LSU returns to practice you are crazy.
should we keep all the kids on campus for the christmas break so they can stay focused?
right now miles is sitting at home scracthing his balls...will that hurt his preparation?
coaches don't think about their next game every second of every day leading up to the game....that is cynical
you would seriously go insane....john nash
he will return to LSU next week (during the dead time) and focus all his work efforts towards OSU

is that how you think? i mean if 1 thing is very important to you, do you let the rest of your life suffer?
do you have to wait until thanksgiving ends, all the left overs are gone, all the decorations are in the attic before you can focus and work on christmas too? answer is, of course not
can you not cut your grass if your truck has a flat tire?
jesus christ, give him some credit. he is about to embark on a simple career change, not start kemotherapy.
when everyone here finds a new job, we all put our 2 weeks in at our current job...are you able to focus at work and get the job done?
if he aas going to spend a total of 175 hours of prep time for this game and OSU but now only spends 150 is that your real concern?
come on, if you believe that it will hurt his perfomance and his teams performance will suffer from it than you really not only give him any credit, but not much credit to choaches in general

that is exactly what i said here
nobody knows this defense better than pelini and bringing someone knew it to institute a new defense in a month OR letting someone else coach pelilnis defense would be a HUGE step down from keeping
but for some reason, you disagreed with me when i said it
quote:
of course his constrained preparation time hurts LSU
if you think whatever time he may lose next week by working with nebraska will hurt LSU you just don't much about the coaching profession
Posted on 12/4/07 at 10:20 am to LSUfan4444
also, anyone who thinks pelini would let this career chgange hurt the kids or fans at LSU, the currect staff at LSU just doesn't know the first thing about him
if you think that it will hurt the team BUT will not be intentional than why do so many people involved with the siatuation (skip, tom osbourne, les miles, bo pelini and the current players at LSU) disagree with you
either you are saying pelini will do it on purpose, OR everyone at LSU who has worked with Pelini now for 3 season is wrong about their assessment of his character and work eithic

As far as recruitng is concerned, I'm sure Osborne will go out and help with that. If you saw his interview, it's quite obvious he doesn't have the greatest personality, however, if Osborne is out there saying that this is his guy. Recruits from Neb. will line up.

There have been a few instances where the assistant leaving before the bowl game may have hurt their team. Friedgen (OC) before GT played LSU a few years ago in the Peach Bowl, and when the Stoops brother (DC) left OU for Arizona before the NC game.
