Jeep: Soft Top vs Hard Top

Which would you have? I currently have a hard top and it sucks taking it off by myself. I'm just a weakling I know. I'm looking to get a soft top but a buddy of mine is trying to talk me out of it.
I'm currently working a deal on Craigslist trading my hard top and full doors for this guys soft top assembly and half doors. Would you guys do it?

you really need both, IMO...hard top during the winter and soft top during the fall, spring and summer....

Yeah, having both is nice, but if I had to choose I would stick with the hard top. More comfortable during winter and much quieter. I rigged up a simple hoist in my garage to raise and lower my hard top. Cost me 6 tie down straps.
Your hard top is worth more than his soft top, so make sure you get some cash from him with the trade if you do it.

If you live in a harsh climate OR you're going to take longer highway trips in it - you're going to want that hard top. Soft top is more convenient for spring/summer when you're going to be taking it on and off a lot.
Are both not an option?

You're gonna regret it when it rains

You're a crazy person if you give up your full doors for half doors.

A lot depends on your age, similar to the motorcycle riders. Seems like when I was in my teens and early 20's, I had soft tops and bikini tops on my jeeps. Bikini tops were great, but, only drove those when there wasn't large rain possibility. But, the jeeps and Broncos were always a 2nd vehicle, that made a huge difference.
Also, remember with soft stuff, you can't lock up anything like guns, or a woman's purse, etc.

I had hard tops on both my CJ's. I just rigged up a winch system, and put the quick release kits in instead of the normal hardware. I could probably put on/take off my hard top as fast as someone else could do the same with a soft top.

Worth every penny
If you have any sort of garage or over-hang, this easy kit allows just about anyone to remove the hard top alone and in a matter of minutes.

This save up for the hard top (by used from a wrecking yard).

Soft top - Full doors. My first hard top jeep leaked worse than any of my soft tops, not sure if all the header channel and front roof panels (unlimited) leaks have been fixed or not. Half doors were a pain, if you leave the bolt heads out of your door pins and the electrical connector unlocked it was just as quick to take a full door off. Buy yourself a spider web shade they are worth the investment.
