Fraternities can no longer co-esist with SJW-mentality administrators. They are in the constant cross hairs of people who can actually disrupt their lives on a whim, and with that totalitarian bureaucratic "prove yourself innocent" zeal we all have come to know and love from the Academic Left.
It's a shame. GVice and I had some good times back in the day at the Lambda Chi house. But what's the point in even pretending that any Institution controlled by Social Justice Warrior decision-illogic will be bearable. They basically portray college kids as disreputable and not worthy of the University, when in fact it looks like it's the other way around. I can't wait to see how the frick up tailgating/game day as they get drunker on their power. Modern day Puritans. frick em.

They want to make tailgating an illegal student celebration.
Soon it will be all the good clean fun you find on Sesame Street.

Whats the difference between making someone do pushups as punishment between a member of a greek organization or an athletic one?
I don't think pushups (unless they're into glass like an earlier poster had to do) are the problem. It's the withholding of medication and sleep deprivation., especially when not under the care of medical professionals.
Now, for the record, I think the charges are bullshite and already speculated earlier that some jackoff is about to flunk out and is throwing the fraternity under the bus to save his arse with Mommy and Pops but the "what's the difference between this and the football team?" is a pretty easy question to answer because there's a big difference.

Being a pledge was a frustrating and fun time when I went through back in the early 90's. No way or reason why they should do some of the things from back then but the ultimate goal was the bond and learning when to tell them to frick off as a group. Pledges as a collective hold plenty of power within the fraternity but unfortunately one pledge can ruin the entire Fraternity
Not only that, but usually the active base is pretty quick to stop anything that is over the line. The organization knows it's under extreme scrutiny and they don't want to get kicked off. Some things are seen as worth it, but you know not to take it too far. I've watched guys get called out for doing something they shouldn't be doing in front of the pledge while they were doing it. Guys who truly took it to a "mean" level were always thought of to be assholes and general warnings not to do shite like that were given at meetings if it started up.
The things that are worth breaking some of the crappy rules over are basically making a pledge 'earn' their place in the organization. And when they do that together, you become closer and respect the organization more. I am not a person that keeps a ton of close personal friends, but when I went through, I felt really comfortable being part of an organization like that. I didn't make extremely strong connections with everyone like some do, but I enjoyed my time and I doubt I would have came close to that experience without pledging.
Kids make mistakes, things go too far, there is liability. I get that. But we've extended it to some really stupid levels. Making a pledge feel as though they are in fact a pledge is not wrong. Making them clean, or taking their phones away, or making them attend things is not going to cause actual harm, so why is Greek Affairs so against this type of "hazing".

Glad the "member review" of 4-5 years ago is paying dividends.

This isn't true. We were cited for making kids come to dinner while I was there. Nothing went on at the dinners. We just want to make sure they came by the house everyday, got to know the actives, and ate the meals they paid for
ETA: I would give anything to relive my pledge semester again

So they can eventually get rid of greek life and their houses.
Back when LSU did the original master plan in early 2000, there was a lot of discussion about the value of the land the greek houses are on. The general conclusion was that using it for fraternity/sorority houses was a complete waste and the University should start transitioning to use the land for something else. This didn't make the final master plan but it was understood to be a goal.

My only regret is that I never got to eat the Shepherd's pie.
Actually, that's not true, I have a shite ton of regrets, but they're my fault not the fraternity's.

Same. I was never expected to do anything that a true gentleman wouldn't do.
When we had the house war whereby we tried to take the house away from the actives, I came creeping around the bushes with the intent of going inside and kidnapping an active, I was swiftly tackled by an awaiting active, fell down and broke my collar bone.
It was all in good fun. No feelings were hurt. No need to sue anyone.

It sounded good, didn't it?
True gentleman was mostly a relative term.

I mean, gentlemen's clubs get to use the term, so why shouldn't you.
We did stupid stuff, but you would get called out for doing something really crude or wrong.
This has me thinking of some pretty random stories that have me laughing at my desk though.
