Bass fishing has been tough there as long as I can remember. Dated a girl while at LSU back in mid-70's. Family lived on lake and it was a great place to hang out.
Her Dad and I would trailer the bass boat to Concordia, he didn't even put it in water on St John
The pontoon stayed at the dock and the cruising boat was on the lift.
Concordia back in the day was great

We tried bass fishing for the first day and a half with little success between 12 people. Set yoyos on the dock and caught some catfish and really nice sacalait.
It got really windy but honestly it wasn't that bad as far as driving the boat goes, working the trolling motor on the other hand...
Spent about 6 hours between 2 nights chasing hybrid striper. Ended up with 1 stripe, 1 bass, and a goo. Looking back we should have started before 12 each night.
Again, not upset at all. I had a great time and it was probably the prettiest lake I've ever been on, but I wouldn't go back with the bass boat. Would have been awesome to have a party barge to run around the lake on.

quote:The last time I fished that lake we fished a local tournament, from daylight until 3p, not a damn nibble, and I grew up there (but didn't fish the lake much). I have had some fun with nice bream and my flyrod in the trees on the N end of the lake. That was a blast. I've had better luck (bream and bass) on Concordia, though. My dad says they used to catch them on worms on deep piers on St. John during summer.

Next time you are in the area trailer to Concordia to fish. St. John has always been shitty for me . But if you want scenery head to Bruin with a pontoon in tow. Balls can tell you all about it

Went there as a teenager 4 times in the early 90's. First time we went, we must have hit the lake just right. Dad, brother and I caught 45 largemouth one day bouncing a chartreuse crankbait off cypress knees. Went back 3 more times because of that trip. Caught maybe a dozen bass total combined on those other 3 trips.

So it was y'all that wiped out the bass on that lake....

In the 90's it was a great place to bass fish. So was concordia. Some people blame the decline in fishing due to the introduction of grass carp. Coontail moss was thick in both lakes but since the moss has disappeared, so have a lot of the fish.

Scenery at bruin is great this time of year and will only get better.

The group has been to Concordia and Bruin all within the last year on trips.
Scenery was definitely lacking on St John.

Side/Down imaging helps to find the ledge fish out there.
I always seem to get one or two good bites on St. John. However, that's usually all I get.
