Wow, thanks. Any way you could compare them to the basic Yamaha you can get at Best Buy? These are $90 right now.
I would go with the Daytons. They will have a fuller sound and will play louder which is better for outdoor use. Dayton - 6.5" woofer and 1" tweeter, Yamaha - 5" woofer and 1/2" tweeter. There is also no real difference in the quality of components or reliability of the two speakers.
If you want to go with Yamaha, I would do this pair with 6.5" woofer/1" tweeter for $100:
Yamaha NS-AW350

I see you purchased speakers already, but I purchased 2 pairs of Duals 100 watt 3 ways from Amazon, sound great for $35 a pair...fwiw
Been outside at deck for about a year, still look good also

I've window shopped at www.onlinecarstereo.com a few times.

I have TIC outdoor speakers and have no complaints. Sound as good or better than a neighbor's similarly designed Bose speakers that are twice the price. I have them hooked up to a Yamaha integrated amp that is in the house. I had them hooked up to a 70's vintage receiver until I left it on while on a two week vacation and it fried. I used direct burial wire purchased off of ebay. The wire runs to a waterproof box and from there runs to the individual speakers keeping the connections above ground. I have the speakers buried in planters. You can't see the speakers with the plants grown in around them.

I'll have room for two more, so I may add something like that to the ones I'll mount under the eaves. That kind or rocks.

These Daytons from Parts Express are great budget outdoor speakers: Parts Express - Dayton Indoor/Outdoor
My phone will not work with the usb in, but bluetooth works fine, so no big deal.

quote:Eh, if I play CDs, The player is so old it doesn't have coax out. CD input on new receiver is coax. So, I'm using the DVD connections. Sounds fine so far. Any point in getting an RCA to coax converter? I guess if I ever put a tv and dvd player out there, I'd need to.

No, RCA is analog, Coax is digital. The receiver wants to use its internal DAC to process the CD information, but your CD player already processed it into analog. Just use another input like you're doing.

I'm contemplating buying these based on the recommendations in this thread. Can you take a picture of how they look hung up?

Sure, but it probably will not be today.
