re: Why doesn't Romero start at catcher?

Romero's average showed to be below .300 today on tv. There is some serious exaggeration of the difference between the two averages.
Its much more than just batting average
Romero has a .622 slg% which is by far the highest on the team. He also has 24 rbi compared to Pap's 13. And for a team that has struggled to hit with RISP at times, it seems like a good idea to have his bat in the lineup as much as possible.

You do realize that Romero played today right? And it's because PM played him today and we did so well that people are hoping it remains this way. This is literally a "we are doing well with Romero playing" thread. Where's the negativity in that?

Dude, really, your act is really old.
This thread isn't necessarily something I have strong feelings about, but I have read my quota of your knee-jerk coach is always right responses, and it's irritating as Hell.
The point of this forum is to discuss debatable topics such as this. And if you don't think the OP's topic is debatable, just leave it alone.
And BTW, the only thing not debatable is your ever present defense of a coaching decision, regardless of sport or topic.

El,
I said nothing about talent, or deserved playing time for either player.
Do you think a power hitting right hander with that wind blowing was a good idea?
I just said the wind played a large part of it TODAY.
And I have been wrong about much more important things.

I think we stick with Bryce Jordan at DH moving forward. Romero's worst games have come when he's DH, but when he catches he is an RBI machine.

Your problem is that you assume any criticism from the fans is misplaced because there is no way that any fan knows as much as the coach. And in a lot of instances on this board, that is probably correct. But this isn't one of those instances. Its obvious to anyone that has watched this team this year that Romero is more valuable to this team than Pap. After this weekend, it should be pretty clear that our best lineup is with Romero at C and Bryce at DH.
Assuming that you are right, what is CPM's motivation? Why does he do the wrong thing every game? Because reading this board he screws up every game. Does he want LSU to lose? If this is as obvious as some claim it is, why do it?
Is it just slightly possible that he sees things the fan doesn't or know more about the workings of the team?
Probably not, right?

I don't think the wind should have that much influence in playing a good player, in general. Specific to this situation, it's laughable.

Romero hits much better as a player than as a DH. Kamacausy laid this out well in the game thread. Plus Bryce is a great DH guy. Bryce walks gets hit and is a good hitter to boot. A DH takes a special mindset to be successful and Bryce has it. Again Pap is a career .225 guy in 2 years and Romero is over .300 with power despite his struggles as a DH.

Holy generalizations Batman!
You shouldn't let this board dictate your ability to decipher a legitimate debate and people bitching. It's not that hard.

Your knee-jerk isn't any different than the rest, just jerking from the opposite side.

I don't know, I'm not inside his head. Maybe he is overvaluing Pap's defense, maybe he is just playing favorites

I don't think anyone in this thread has said that Paul screws up every game. And why do you seem to think that coaches can do no wrong? You seem to think all of our coaches and AD are infallible, which is equally as dumb as thinking that our coaches are wrong every game.

Let me see if I understand you.
It is permissible for the posters to criticize each and every coach each and every game regardless of outcome. Am I right?
That never gets old?
Right?
But if I criticize the complainers, that gets old?
Is that how it works?
It isn't knee jerk for "fans" to bitch about every coach in a game; every game.
Ok with that?
But to point out that out is knee jerk.
Am I on track?
You don't see the slightest hint of hypocrisy in that?
Apparently not.
Carry on

Bryce J earned more starts this weekend.
Romero did too to a lesser degree.
PM will continue to juggle these three guys trying to find the best mix of hitting and catching.

this forum is not in place to have legitimate discussions about team performance. We are here simply to praise our coaches and discuss how we agree with there every move. I don't see what you people don't understand about this.

Playing favorites? The coaches I have known personally did play favorites. They played those people that they thought gave them the best possible to win.

I don't think the coaches and administrators are infallible, but I do tend to trust their judgement over a bunch of people with no credibility.
Wouldn't you? I mean given a choice who do you trust, a person who has been successful in a certain profession for decades or a guy that has never performed in that arena?

And this makes ME stupid?
No.
What makes you stupid is your constant criticism of anyone who voices any kind of opinion that questions an LSU coach. In any sport. If people like you had your way, Curley Hallman would still be the HC in football.

Ok how about this: Perhaps Mainieri thought Pap was the better catcher going into the season and because of that he is giving him more chances than Romero. Its really not that crazy of a concept.

Well no shite there are idiots on here. That's why its called the rant. But that doesn't mean that occasionally the rant can provide some valid criticisms, this being one of them.

Why do we have no credibility? Fans that watch every game, keep up with stats, follow the team in offseason practice, etc. can't have a valid opinion of the team if it doesn't follow in line with the coach's decisions?
Why do you even post here man? If you want to be someone who blindly agrees with everything the coaches do it seems you'd enjoy yourself much more not reading this website
