OP, if your budget for a SUV is really 140-160k (which is silly to allot for any SUV), go ahead and test drive a full size Rover autobiography with captains chairs in the back... thank me later

G class (trust me I know firsthand) is the most iconic SUV in the world, and I know people that have traded them in after a month because they will beat you to death. Especially the G63, as the suspension is stiffer than the G550.

Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes, etc. I also see that Maserati

One of these is not like the others.

The only one of the ones you listed that would be in the same class as a Maserati would be a G Wagon from Mercedes.

What are you driving now?

If I needed to haul a few people around and wanted something pretty quick, I would go with the G63 or Cayenne Turbo S.

For everything else I'll go with a Land Cruiser. You can never go wrong with one. I didn't want to chance it so I went with two of them, 80 and 100. LOL. Will be adding the 200(current LX570) in a couple years.

Lol no

Land rover came out with the most expensive SUV on the market recently. Maserati is NOT in a class of its own.

And they stopped being lemons when they broke away from Ford several years ago.

Let me expand on that bit.

In 1989 Ford bought both Jaguar and Rover. Jaguar, from about 2005 onward has been at or near the top in reliability while Rover has lagged. Ford sold both marques to TATA in 2008.

So why did Rover lag behind?

Ford put many resources into Jaguar. In particular, changing production methods and upgrading the Coventry plant. Plus, Bill Ford loved Jaguar.

I fully expect Rover to continue to improve under TATA's ownership, but Rovers are complex.

More here:

In 2000 BMW bought the Rover group (really for RR) and sold LR to Ford.

Thanks for your obviously unbiased opinion.

I had no idea they made a rover with captains chairs. Is this captains chairs similar to a Tahoe/Yukon where one could walk through or is it the captains chairs with the center console?

Unfortunately when I think about it, I can buy two new fully loaded trucks for the price of one rover. That's when common sense kicks in and I forget about it, especially because it can't pull my boat...although I may consider it when the wife needs her upgrade.

I know. To get backseat captains chairs, you're looking at 100k easily. I don't have to have that level of suv, but even a nice 60k rover is among the smoothest, sexiest, most exclusive vehicles on the road. Plus I love that they have more off road capabilities than any other stock vehicle on the road

Soppy go test drive them. My Rover has the captains chairs in the rear and they are nice. You give up space because you can't fold them up. Try the long wheel base model as well. They have come a long way since the late 80's when they were first introduced. They are not a reliable as a Toyota product, but they are much better looking and nicer inside. You will know which one to choose when you have driven them.

I know right. I love the inscription on the door handles, resembling the receiver of an over under shotgun. I have a rover with those seats, but I bought mine for 65k a couple of years old haha

Depends on where you are I guess, they are very common here.

Well in terms of production, Rover only sends around 40k vehicles to the US per year. They are not mass produced and there are only like 180 rover stores in the US. Obviously they will be more common in places that have higher average income
