Boat fueling issue

Bought a boat a few months ago and have been frustrated with a seemingly simple thing, filling up at a gas station. It burps quite often and one time shot up like a damn geyser! I can't find a vent on the hull but it is vented right at the cap (it's made by Perko). I just installed a new one but it didn't fix it. I am completely stumped and frustrated. Any ideas?

it has to do with the way the fuel fill line is plumbed
mine does the same thing
Open the vent cap and pump slowly

What brand boat? My Xpress did this. It's a common issue with them. I could only fill with the nozzle upside down at 1/2 throttle. I removed a canister in line from the tank to the vent. Now it flows freely
Also there is a screen or valve between the fill opening and tank. This can cause the flow be obstructed. You can remove that too.

If it isn't vented well you just gotta go real slow

Happens on my truck because the vent lines are screwey. Just go slow for the first few gallons

It is a PITA, happens to mine, too.
Worse at marinas, better at regular gas stations.

If you are in a position to listen as you fill, when the tone of flow changes you are getting close - stop and then start to fill real slow. If not then just fill slowly when you think you are close - and don't stand directly in line with the opening

Pumps are probably faster at a marina
