EWR is cheaper in most instances for what I'm finding and if it's only about 15 minutes difference who cares.
And I'm hesitant with Expedia from a few bad reviews I read about hotels being overbooked and "non direct bookings" getting kicked out. I guess I should say relocated.

EWR is just a nicer and better run airport too in my experience. LGA is kind of dumpy and always a nightmare for me. Just allow plenty of time going back out to it when you leave

Your not the hotel or airlines customer if you don't book through their site. I would always avoid doing that if at all possible.
