I like animated shows and want to give anime a shot. What do y'all recommend?

Preferably available on Amazon Prime but Netflix will work too.

as someone who has never watched anime before, I'm trying to make my way through Attack on Titan

I like the story, but I just can't get over the anime style

is Avatar considered anime? because I enjoyed that

Attack on Titan

I don't like Anime and I've blazed through it. Suffers from the same shortfalls of all animes (overly expository inner monologues, flashbacks at awful times, goofy Asian humor, etc) but it is very good. Can't wait for season 2

You've got to power through. Episodes 17-22 (where I am now) are just insane

And, yes, Naruto is an anime

DBZ is the best choice for anime noobs. Not sure where you can legally stream it though.

I thought Death Note was great. First half of the series is one of the best detective shows I've ever seen. Its on netflix.

Not sure what the selection choices are for Prime or Netflix but I started off watching Cowboy Bebop, DBZ, Air Gear, and Naruto when I first started watching Anime.

Berserk the series(not the movie), and Attack on Titan are highly recommended as well if you want something more adult.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try Attack on Titan and check out some of the other suggestions if I don't like it.

Cowboy Bebop is another good suggestions. Doesn't suffer from the aforementioned shortfalls nearly as often. I need to watch it again. The movie was pretty good too

If you're in to comedy, The Devil is a Part Timer is hilarious.

Berserk the series

I guess I'm the resident Berserk guy on this board and always feel like I'm alone in getting others to check it out, but yeah Berserk is great. And if you check out the original anime now, by the time you finish more of the story should be airing soon on Crunchyroll. After almost 20 years...

I watched it and thought it was brilliantly written. Loved everywhere the writer was willing to go. Hated the ending because I wanted MORE.

Such an epic cliffhanger when those 26 episodes are the only thing animated. The only place to go from there is the manga, which is superior to either anime in every way

this is the correct answer. its kind of long. if you want something quick and satisfying (dont we all) try the recently dubbed anime: Akame Ga Kill! its more brutal than Game of Thrones and has really great characters.

This would probably be the best place to start if you're new to anime. Even better than Attack on Titan.

On a related note, stumbled across what happens when you google "attack on deadpool":
