The only store near my house that sells non ethanol gas is in...let's say the ghetto. Last night I went to buy a few gallons of gas and a hand written sign was above he register stating "you can now use your ebt card for hot meals". This place does have a deli in the back, but I thought there was a law that only cold food to be prepared at home could be purchased with a ebt card?

I believe it is due to disaster protocol......When that goes away that rule goes away......

It's a temporary exemption due to the flooding a few weeks ago. Saw the more detailed explanation and coverage dates on the door of the Albertson's near my house.

All the little stores around here with a deli have signs that you can use foodstamps to buy hot food until April 7. It has to do with the recent flood.

Know a guy with a Soul Food/ Plate lunch place in Lafayette. Said EBT cards were the #1 form of payment.

Saw a woman buy 50 lbs of hot boiled crawfish. This was before any flooding.

deli
Just because they have some processed meat doesn't mean it's a deli.

I've seen signs that stores are accepting them in "urban" areas of BR. Maybe today I'll drive around to try and help a few of the flood victims in those areas.

Yep a well known crawfish place has built his business this way. Disgusting

I haven't seen that but I know of some places that sell live crawfish to ebt card holders, then charge them cash, $1 per sack to boil it. So you could have a big family boil for a few bucks out of pocket. Sickening really.

Just saw a sign in Amite convenience store last week that said "you can no longer buy ICEES with your EBT card."
How dare they do that to us!

As opposed to the Walton family? Who cares? If they weren't buying boiled hot crawfish with their EBT card, you'd be complaining about them buying steak and lobster. If they didn't buy steak as lobster, everyone would complain about buying 20 cases of sugary snacks and soda.

No, but you can buy Prawns, King Crab legs, and Choice cuts of meat.

This is the way I look at it, they give out only so much a month, its up to the people receiving it to manage it. The more they spend for one thing means there is less to spend on something else. Plus, food stamps benefit more than the people who receive them. How many small grocery stores or gas stations around the state would be able to run without food stamp customers?
