Instead of getting paid OT he may have been getting bonuses. Maybe being non exempt he won't but will get paid for OT

it was brought to the company's attention by their legal team that he should have been non exempt the whole 5 years of employment.
Also, how many hours/weekd does he work? Could this possibly benefit him and he get a pay raise out of it?

Nah, just a dude with 100+ employees at a Fortune 500 company that ended up getting unionized and who spent more time in HR than any rational person would want.
