Somebody said there is a way the world is and the way you think it should be.
I'm no even getting all "USA USA USA" on you. They torture and murder their own as well. People responsible for it need to die. And we need to get this stupid arse kid back.

How exactly is it evil? He was in their country. He broke their law. Now he is subject to their punishment. Sounds to me like we should do more of that in this country.

I'm guessing if your best friend, mother/father, brother, child or whoever did something stupid like drinking and driving,
That is horrible. Very unsatisfying to only be able to blame the dead. Same applies here.
This guy is just more ridiculous. Drunk driving is stupid and selfish, but usually does not involve pre meditation many times. This guy planned this trip and probably spent a lot of time and coin to get there. Stirred shite and cot caught.

Perception is reality. What you say is petty may not be petty to them. He's not a child, he's a grown man that broke the law in a foreign country that has severe punishments. He knew this and decided to steal something anyway. I'm not saying their punishments are right. It's pretty obvious they are wrong. But what makes him special?

Cruel and unusual punishment?

seems to be a pretty fair comparison to be honest. Sounds like the guy went with a tour group. They all got drunk and stole a few things. Hardly the worth the punishment.
At this point we really don't know what he did. I have no reason to trust NK especially with them just doing another nuke test.

Chances are highly likely this kid didn't actually steAL anything. The fact that they make him read a prepared statement claiming he was paid by the US government and some American church to steal the sign is all the proof you need. Why we don't just mow that entire shut hole down to the ground I don't know.

And this guy went there... HE went.
Would you feel pity for a guy who went to Juarez wearing a "Zetas are Bitches" t-shirt. Or punched a cartel member in the face?

I do not disagree.

How? Are there any more sanctions that we can place? How many other lives should we risk by sending a group over to negotiate?
North Korea being evil and this guy being an idiot are individual issues.

Obviously. It's still cruel and unusual and yes, evil to subject someone to those conditions for something so petty (if he even did it). If you think the punishment fits the crime, I think you are nuts.

he is a American and we give them millions of dollars in Aid every single year. They will just use him as a way to get more.
They don't give a frick about stealing anything. They will run his face on their news and make seem like some big victory to their sheep.

Unfortunately that only works in civilized countries. He is in a place where cruel and unusual is the norm. I normally don't feel compassion for people that do incredibly stupid things but I just wish the US would try to get him out of there.

Any children of the 90s remember the hipster that got caught stealing in Singapore. He got sentenced to a few lashes of a cane across his arse and the entire nation freaked out.

I never said it did. What I'm saying is when you're in someone else's house you abide by their rules. If you don't then you suffer the consequences even if people don't agree with them.

Did you not say "how is it evil?" I get your point, but I don't see how you can argue that the punishment isn't evil.

Getting 3 years for having a gun in NYC is nuts, but that's how they do it. That's understandable. What North Korea does is not even fathomable. Think about the places that chop off your hand for theft. THOSE PLACES ARE BETTER THAN NORTH KOREA Given the choice, I'd chop my own damn hand off and come home before I spent 15 years losing body parts and dying of starvation.

Hammertime, you probably agree with me on this:
Most people learn life's hard lessons the hard way.
