Not if JBE can help it.

This is a purely local issue
Not just a local issue. Same thing is going on in Lafayette.
Same thing is going on nationwide.
Have you been living under a rock?

Sad day for democracy when the wishes of an overwhelming majority of the OP are overridden by the Louisiana cracker-ocracy....

You do know the money to remove the statues has been donated so its not really costing the city very much.
You must have missed the news a few weeks ago where they were caught trying to sneak the cost into the city's budget. To my knowledge no evidence was ever presented that any money has been donated to pay for this.

Really? So parts of New Orleans are in north Louisiana?

Shouldn't the people that always say Mitch has more important things to worry about tell that to this chick?

It's a shame they have to waste time even doing this.

Good.
I hope this passes as a big frick you to Mitch and his blatant pussified pandering to deflect from the shitty job he's done as Nola Mayor.

Maybe if the jackoff mayor/council had put it to a vote of the people, assclowns like you could say that with some degree of certainty. Instead it appears as some shady deal based on real or imagined political pressure.

pray the people of NOLA come to their senses
Every poll has shown that the citizens don't want them removed. It is just a political circle jerk to take advantage of the Charleston church shooting. Nothing more.

. Next up will be monuments in cities like Richmond, Birmingham, Memphis, etc.
How about Washington DC? Jefferson and Washington owned slaves. Removing the Washington Monument???

Wish I could upvote this infinity times. He is the worst we have ever had and that says a lot. I'm almost proud to say I voted for Nagin instead of Mitch when Ray beat him.

the City does not possess clear title to the monuments or the ground underneath, so it is a violation of State property law to remove them
Yeah not sure about this.
quote:
and it is also a violation of the state and federal constitutions to commit a "takings" of this property without due process, which due process was clearly lacking in the show-trial City Council hearings conducted while the City had already started the removal process under the direction of a shadowy donor whom the City refuses to identify.
Ok, this is 1000% wrong, no way the City's action is a taking and the due process argument is silly. Not saying there are no valid arguments for overturning the Council, but its not takings and due process.
quote:
Also, if the monuments come down, they will be the first domino to fall in this process. Next up will be monuments in cities like Richmond, Birmingham, Memphis, etc. This attempted white-washing of American history will only spread
A little dramatic, New Orleans isn't the first and won't be the last.

I didn't even want to touch that post. It might be one of the dumbest things I've read on here in a while.
