why are they asking a rep from Franklinton to do their bidding instead of pressuring their own elected officials

Because the elected officials aren't listening. They're too busy grandstanding to cater to a minority.

Yep. This is how a limited government works. Your own elected officials won't listen, so you beg for more.

You and the other NOLA ilk begging for favors and supporting raiding the whole state for your own benefit are the problem with this state.

Shut the frick up and force a change in your own community before begging 4 million people to help you save a statue.

Because New Orleans and Monroe are both part of Louisiana

So much for home rule. North Louisiana republicans surely know what's best for the darkies in New Orleans.

You serious Clark?

The populace of New Orleans wants the monuments to stay. It's the politicians pushing this.

It's a purely local issue. This doesn't affect the whole state by any means. If they want a new addition to the interstate, I'll listen.

Oh well then he can just do whatever he wants then, right? Carte blanche. What could go wrong?

It was proposed by the duly-elected Mayor of New Orleans to the duly-elected City Council, passed by the City Council, challenged in court, and upheld by a federally-appointed judge.

I too think it's a bunch of frickery, but I for damn sure don't think a state senator from Franklinton should have any say in the matter.

I didn't know Franklinton was where NOLA citizens went to to beg for salvation.

Supports the installation of interpretive plaques to aid in the ongoing discussion, which puts the monument in a more current context.
I'd rather them go, but a) this seems to serve the monuments and people well and b) my opinion doesn't matter because I don't live in New Orleans.

Well I disagree with you. IF a bunch of NOLA politicians decided to do something stupid, I'm perfectly fine when someone else says "not say fast." How could anyone possibly be against that?

Can only people who live in New Orleans recognize the significance of historical monuments?

Because youre involving the entire state in a purely local issue. Should NOLA have a say in whether the statue at the end of my street hangs around?

Personally, I think it's ugly as frick.

Nope. But they have the final say in whether those monuments reflect the current views of the city.

Why didn't previous generations have them declared landmarks?

That's not the same no matter how many times you keep bringing it up.

The committee covers all monuments in the state. New Orleans is part of the state.

This isn't just a New Orleans deal. Obviously, the main statue battle is going on in New Orleans, but New Orleans isn't the only place where this is happening.

If you want local governments to handle these issues, that's fine, I'm not objecting to that. But from what I understand, this committee has been in place and wasn't created solely for this issue. If I'm wrong on that last part, let me know.

Apparently your opinion matters more than you think. NOLA citizens can't help themselves, so they need our support.

The didn't anticipated the pussy arse SJW movement that would want to tear history down because some guy in South Carolina decided to shoot up a church.

My whole point in this thread has been that a purely local issue is being turned into a statewide one for no good reason other than increased government interference.

How any conservative can support that is beyond me.

I don't want to have to go to an appointed official in Baton Rouge to change a silly monument.

I guess we'll see if that's true

New Orleans is still part of Louisiana. Are you taking states' rights to a further degree (Cities' rights ).
