The XTerra is too heavy
both the xterra and rubicon are both in the 4000 lbs bracket.
The Xterra is a premier off-roading vehicle "off the lot" if you buy the pro 4x or off-road models. if you have an experienced driver, there is not a lot the truck won't do compared to most other non-modded vehicles.

Fair enough! Those are really well put together as well, and can really dive into some water as well. I think my lack of knowledge on them has lead me to think their clearance issue looks substantial. They look like their tires would rub REALLY easily and that it wouldn't flex for crap judging it solely off of the stock look. what, an inch or two between the tire and the wheel well?
but, i do know those aren't just expensive soccer mom SUV's. sister in law was looking at getting one recently, and we even rode around in it. it was baf. but, i mean, i wouldn't feel comfortable with terrain that was very uneven.
sell me on them? it won't take much... the interiors were unparalleled. the drive was amazing. they look sharp.

People that don't know shite about off roading, talking about off roading are fun to watch.
I agree. Given that the stock Pro4x xterra with a VG40 can run spyder mesa in moab...yeah it must be shitty.

A guy on my team when I was at Lejeune had a PRO-4X. We used to hit Uwharrie while we were there, and that thing impressed the hell out of me. If I was choosing between that and a Cherokee, PRO-4X, every time.

I did zuwharrie a few times.
Yes...Zuwharrie.
The suv I was running was much cheaper than a jeep and sub 2500lbs.

YouTube any of your concerns on rovers. They elevate their bodies to increase their ride height. Ours will elevate 4" from its stock ride height with the push of a button.

Yeah that's a little high. I paid 15k for my '04 almost 4 years ago. Low mileage and stock. Very clean. 4.0L and 5 speed. I personally wouldn't pay more than about 8k for anything that old no matter the condition. It isnt like YJs are rare like some of the older CJs.

I think they've been out there when we were a time or two. There's a few Samurais running around where we go here as well.

Bought a stock 03 rubicon early this year with 160k on it for 12k.
Sounds like a lot of miles, but clean as a whistle and maintenance records for it's entire life.
No ticking on start up is what matters with that 4.0L.

i haven't read or posted anything on the OB in a while so this jeep thread must have drawn me back.
mine's kind of like a girl in a dark club- looks pretty til you get up close and see all the flaws (dings, scratches, etc) and if you look underneath, there's lots of trail scars.
Hot Springs, Arkansas last thanksgiving: bumper wasn't finished in time for the trip and if you look hard- she's missing a wheel flare that got lost on a tree the day before.
also- that ain't a creek, that's the trail.

Does this seem like a pretty good deal? 12k for an 89 sounds high to me, but it looks clean as a whistle.
I ve seen them with LS motors and looked better for that much, better hope he has an axle upgrade as well

I've had a 2000 & 2010, wish I still had them. Never had any of the probs folks like to bellyache about. Bought them, drove them, had a assload of fun, sold them for close to what I paid for them.

But why didn't you spend much money on your mods man? Show us a REAL rig... what a tiny stinger you have there. I mean, what's the point? pffff

I don't remember how I found this video but it what has made me want a Jeep. This video is from a Jeep club that goes to different places like Moab, Death Valley and the Rubicon trail - which this one is. I would really like to join them on a trip to the Rubicon one day.

I want a Jeep so bad.
DLauw - Forgive my ignorance, but what's the purpose of the tongue thing on your bumper? I see those all the time and I've always wondered what they were for.

its called a stinger. It's a safety device. I've come pretty close to doing endos a couple of times. I had two instances on that Arkansas trip alone. The stinger prevents you from doing an endo and will either get you back on all four or lay you on your side. Both are much better than being on your roof.
My buddy same trip:
